I'm starting to download podcasts and listen to them on my phone, something I've never tried before. Looking for recommendations on good ones to listen to!

@Mrs. Pen: Same. My church actually produces a weekly one which I love. It's pretty much the only one I listen to--and sometimes I don't have time for that!

@mfa_lady: I like northpoint, mars hill and of course my church too - but theirs are the weekly sermon, so only if I miss church.

Radiolab! They do full hour shows, but also 20 minute "shorts", which are great if I'm on my way into work or something...perfect amount of time! Also, sometimes This American Life and Snap Judgement!

@Mrs. Pen: Oooh, yeah! You might like ours, too--it's called the "Becoming" Podcast by Hope Church. It's super conversational.

Nope, I don't even know where to find a podcast to download it! Haha

I love "The TED radio hour" on NPR. They are themed hour-long podcasts adapting TED talks to radio. They usually feature 3-4 speakers and interview them about their talk.
I listen to them when I swim laps and get a really good workout. You can download them online and their app is pretty handy.

I listen to the Dave Ramsey show daily. Not sure if you'd like his stuff, but I find it very refreshing!

I used to listen to a podcast with Ricky gervais, Stephen merchant and Karl pilkington. They were hilarious!
Haven't in a long time though.

@TemperanceBrennan: Awesome rec! I just discovered them last week and have been listening to it non-stop since then!!
Since we have similar tastes in podcasts, what other ones do you like and listen to?

@mrbee: When I'm at work, I usually just listen to the NPR App. My favorites (after the Ted Radio Hour) are Fresh Air , Tell Me More, and The Diane Rehm Show - I love when she interviews authors. Sometimes it can get pretty news-heavy. This American Life is always good too.

Welcome to Nightvale.
I love it, but it's... quirky, and I could see that it might be an acquired taste.

@mrbee: in the same vein, Planet Money is another good one with short (20 minute) podcasts about economic stories, mostly. Recently they had an interesting one about the value of a penny, both the perceived value and the actual value of the coin itself. It was pretty cool.

I love the Totally Married, Totally Mommy, and Totally Laime! They're all by the same woman.

The moth - my fave!! - short stories that are ironic and funny and sometimes sad and ridiculous.

@mrbee: You guys are into Paleo, right? There are some good Paleo podcasts. Balanced Bites and The Paleo View are more of a question/answer format where people write in questions. Chris Kresser's has a good podcast called Revolution Health Radio that goes into a lot more science. And none of them are hardcore, Paleo zealots which I appreciate.
I also love Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me and The Moth Story Hour.

@.twist.: OMG. I had forgotten about that podcast--that was the absolute best. I am laughing just thinking about it--do you remember the one where they were talking about giving a goat to someone in a third world country for a Christmas present?

We listen to sports podcasts--don't know if you are a fan or not. Our favorites are the bs report (bill simmons), grantland's men in blazers (soccer, really funny), and grantland's the lowe post (nba).

@mossyslane: haha I don't! I need to go find it! I mostly remember the one where Karl was talking about huge germs.

I highly recommend You Made it Weird with Pete Holmes. He mostly interviews comedians but they talk about way more and get deep and weird. The podcasts can be up to two hours long. He's a very strange guy but its addictive.

The only one I've listened to is npr's "wait wait don't tell me." Love it!
