So, we just this week potty trained S, so far so good, no pee accidents at home, just 1 at daycare so far, waking dry from naps and in the morning. Poops are a work in progress. My issue is that I find he doesn't smell as clean as I am used to/would like. We haven't been making him wipe after pees (my husband insists that wound be weird) but I have to wonder if we are missing something. Maybe it is my sensitive pregnant nose, but there has to be something to help!

Does he shake? Haha I have not noticed a problem but I do count a few extra seconds after he says he's done before moving on with the pulling up of the pants

G always wipes when he pees in the potty. I think it's because he sees me do it. I just give him one square and he wipes himself. If I say he doesn't need to, he insists.

@grapecrush: Monkey see monkey do. My husband wipes at home and shakes in public. Our son will most likely follow his daddy.

It's hit or miss, sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't. Are they supposed to, or not, lol?

We're not even remotely potty trained here but we do pat with a square or two of toilet paper after we're done. DS is pretty insistent about it too.

Hahaha, my Aunt was a single mom and taught her son to wipe afterwards, and he says he got teased in school for it.
But, I think I would want my son to - it's not like there's magically no pee there! -
@swurlygurl: I'm pretty close to my former guy coworkers; and they said they saw a guy grab some paper towels when he walked in the bathroom, used the urinal, then wiped himself with the paper towels. They thought it was sooooo weird.

Hahaha...my husband also believes in 'the shake' and that wiping after pee is unnatural.
We do get him to wipe (which is usually a really quick swipe as he pushes the toilet paper into the toilet) after pee and then I may wipe again once he's off the toilet. I also find he's a little stinkier than I'd like him to be!

haha I think, personally, I will teach the shake. I'm not actually sure what our older boys do though? I know they sit to pee even though DH has tried to encourage them to stand now, but I think growing up in a house with only a woman makes it seem like that's how it's done! So I do know they sit, but after a pee only, I'm not sure if they wipe?

I've never even thought about a man wiping. I just assumed they all do the shake... Gosh. Raising a son is going to be a whole different universe!!

Oh boy.... we're not there yet, so hadn't thought that far in advance. Learning to raise a boy is going to be a whole new experience for me!

Just wanted to add that DS was trained sitting down but he quickly went to standing because that is what DH did. I remember the 1st time I was in the bathroom and DS shook his penis I kind of chuckled and DH said "yeah, I taught him that" DH was VERY proud of himself

S sees my husband stand to pee and shake, but he sits is far and we have been waiting a few extra seconds post pee for any drips to fall. I am afraid if he shakes pee will end up everywhere
I am going to have to get over it I think!My husband claims I am crazy and that he doesn't smell different, I will probably sneak in the odd flush able wipe "wipe down" a couple times a day just to indulge my crazy.

Very eye opening, I had never thought about it before, now I have to ask my husband what he does! I have always heard if its more than two shakes then they're playing with it (not sure who is counting though).

Wow...I had never stopped to think about this since DS is only 4 months. I had to ask DH what he does...because I'd prefer DH to him how to pee. I guess he won't be teaching to wipe

I wiped for him when LO started going on his own. So, now he wipes himself. He also learned the shake from watching his dad so he actually does both.

I started enforcing the shake more now, urging him to be a bit more aggressive with it and the odour I was noticing before is gone! Apparently you need to shake more than twice
