I'm a lawyer. I can't watch any legal shows or movies because I get too frustrated with all of the errors and misrepresentations. I just find myself screaming at the television, "that's not a proper objection!"

To be fair, it gets dark at like 4:30 these days (at least it does where we are)! But yes, I often balk at the way they portray life.

@mfa_lady: how about sex scenes, where both people orgasm simultaneously and there's no mess afterwards!

@Meowkers: Yes! Or those legal shows when someone shows up for a meeting with a lawyer, and they're in trial like a week later. I'm always complaining about legal shows!

Omg how about "zoom and enhance" in cop shows! Although I think I like bad tv better than good tv. I always notice lazy writing, but it mostly makes me laugh and doesn't bother me. I annoy my FIL when I talk to the TV during shows (I tend to laugh at melodrama and make jokes a lot).

I don't notice mistakes but I do comment on holes in the plot line. If it's not possible IRL, I'll most likely say something.

Definitely. The pregnancy and birth issues are the biggest for me. Like on friends when Phoebe takes a pregnancy test the same day as her IVF transfer. Or the fact that in basically every show/movie they do an ultrasound in the first tri and it already looks fully like a baby and they can tell the sex.

Yes! They are fun to catch.

@Meowkers: I'm the same way with hospital shows - the ER physician diagnoses the problem, does the surgery, and is the attending physician afterwards. Never happens like that.

ETA: My husband and I pick up on stuff like this all the time. I do it in print, too. I think it's hysterical when ads have misprints.

I love catching the mistakes! The last scene in "The First Wives Club" when the women are singing and dancing is so distracting. Diane Keaton has on two different pairs of shoes!

@littlebug: yup, I love finding the errors in medical TV shows. I love grey's but they really lack sterile technique

My husband's biggest tv mistake pet pieve is when the people on tv are drinking coffee out of paper to-go cups and you can tell the cup is empty by how light it is when they lift it to their mouth to fake drink

And this isn't really a mistake but if one more cop drama solves the crime by the killer being left-handed I'm going to lose it
