I don't offer any advice to friends or family unless they ask for it...I just focus on how cute their baby is!

Not unless they explicitly ask, because I remember getting so very annoyed with advice givers.

Only if they ask. Even then, I tell them to take my advice with a grain of salt. I feel like I barely know what I'm doing most days!

Not unless they ask or express concern to me. My LO isn't even born yet and I'm so sick of suggestions and advice. I try my hardest to keep my mouth shut around other pregnant mamas.

I only give advice to my sisters since they usually ask. I've learned my lesson to keep quiet to friends. I get easily offended if they ignore my advice (just suggestions for their baby registry).

I only offer if they ask. I will sometimes relate something that worked well for us in passing through a story without it sounding like a suggestion.

I give advice when asked or mentioned in an FB book. There's a couple with a 3 month old or so going through colic and wake ups. They sound as inexperienced as we were in the early days. I've offered up our favorite books and tricks as advice. When I mentioned "Happiest Baby, " he was enlightened the same way we were.
Also, I sought out advice in the early days from my brother whose a dad to three. Their help was so wonderful then. Even now, they still offer advice when we have a question. It's been one of the nice changes in my brother's and mine's relationship. I'm closer to him now as a mom because we're both parents.

@prettylizy: I do the same thing, but ONLY with my sister. And ONLY when she seems like she's asking without asking. She indirectly asks, I indirectly advise.

Only if asked.
We had one visitor in the first week who insisted DS needed a paci and I said no, she kept going on and thankfully DH spoke up and that kept her quiet.
I wouldn't want to make someone uncomfortable like that.

Only if they ask!! I remember how much I hate getting unsolicited advice, so I won't do that to another person!

I never give advice without asking, and even then I make to say that every baby is different and that every parent is different, so to just follow their gut. I was horribly annoyed (and super stressed) during the first couple of months after my son was born about the incessant advice from people. And one person would tell me one thing, and then the very next person would tell me the complete opposite, and both would be convinced that if I didn't follow their advice, I was doing it wrong. It was awful and the only advice I actually took was from friends that I personally reached out to.

If they ask. Or, with my SIL, if she is complaining about something I usually respond with something like "when we went through that with M, this is what worked for us.....". Then she can take it or leave it.

No, mainly because I have no experience yet and everything that I think I know is just what I've read. Also, I hate when people give me unsolicited advice so I try not to give it to others.

Same here - only if asked! Otherwise, I just fawn over the cuteness and smuggle it with kisses and cuddles.

Only if asked.....although with a certain family member on DH's side, it takes every bit of restraint I have not to open my mouth...
