I am in the process of buying Miss Sadie an adorable walker/stroller from Amazon, and just realized I have to pay tax now. A quick Google search informed me that Virginia started charging tax for Amazon purchases on September 1st. UGH. So lame. I mean it's only like an extra $1, but still... cut down on a lot of the Christmas shopping I was going to do on Amazon. 
Do you have to pay tax on Amazon purchases?

Yup, we have always in NY. Why would it change anything? Anywhere I shop there will be tax.

@locavore_mama: I was really excited to get the Amazon Mom free trial, so I could get my Christmas gifts shipping & tax free. Now, if I'm going to have to pay tax anyway, I'll just shop in the store.

@photojane: if you ship to a state that doesn't tax then there is still no tax.
But in general I prefer shopping online and Amazon is almost always cheaper.

Yep, I'm in NY. I still prefer shopping on Amazon. I have next to no time to shop in stores with LO.

@locavore_mama: @Mrs. Jump Rope: @swedishfish: I prefer to see things in person before I buy them! It's so hard to tell online, and shipping things back is such a hassle. I always price compare what I find in the stores with Amazon though. If it's considerably cheaper online, I'll order it.

I think we start paying tax on Amazon purchases in November. Sucks.

We don't have to pay tax at the point of sale on Amazon, but in our state when you file your yearly taxes you have to pay an "estimated" use/sales tax based on online purchases for the year.

I don't think so, I think we're still good in Florida on Amazon! But other sites, some, yes.

Yes. And even if you don't, you're supposed to pay it when you file your taxes each year.

I'm not sure if we are required to in michigan. There are some times where I have paid tax and other times where I haven't. I think it depends on where the seller lives.
