I see everyone doing this but I've never done it. The corn I've purchased has been so far. Do you do this?

@hilsy85: It's always been fine! I also order it from Fresh Direct a lot and I've never had a problem. They don't peel it first.

Ha! I bought corn today at publix and briefly debated shucking at the store but decided I was too tired:) I've never done it there but it seems like everyone else does!
I just did mine at home;)

Always!!! And I almost always find a couple that I put back because they aren't in great shape.

I didn't know you could!! I bought some at the farmers market and two had bugs, and I had to cut pieces off the other two!!

@Andrea: Ah well you can't peel it back before you order it I guess And I'm sure they check the corn before they send it out. But anything I buy in the store, I always check. There are bugs sometimes, or the kernels at the top are all dried out. I don't shuck the whole way, I just feel back the top third.

Yes, the stores I go to always have trash cans near the corn!

I usually just peel the tops back a little bit to make sure the kernels are nice and plump. But we leave the husk on since we don't always cook it the same day we buy it. Or we are going to grill it.

I typically do. I hate getting bad corn, or worse, wormy corn.

Ok I am even worse than not peeling it back...I buy frozen corn! At least it's not canned!

@googly-eyes: I know! I buy it already cut into mini sizes and I boil it:/ my bad. I hardly eat corn though at all.

My mom would peel back corn to check it but she would never shuck it while in the store. I didn't realize people did until I saw a trash can right next to the corn at my local store. I have shucked it once while I was at the store but only because they had a trash can there.
Corn I don't mind waiting til I get home to shuck because I don't usually pay per pound. I do peel back to make its not bad. I have seen stores that have trash cans near cabbage so you can peel away the outside layers. That's a good idea.

@googly-eyes: @TurtleDoves: Sometimes we grill it, otherwise I just boil fresh corn, too. It only takes 4 minutes in boiling water so it's not that much harder than frozen. You just have to shuck and wash it!
