We get a date night tonight and my husband wants to try a new Vietnamese restaurant that's supposed to be really good. I've never really loved anything I've ordered at Vietnamese restaurants (though I've only been to a few) and would prefer going to my favorite Thai restaurant and getting some coconuty soup and curry.
So I was just wondering if anyone else has a preference between the two and for those who love Vietnamese food please try to sell me on a dish.

Thai for sure. I'm a vegetarian and find veggie Thai dishes much more interesting than Vietnamese ones

I feel like Vietnamese is the new Thai. I love the subtle complex flavors and the heavy emphasis on veggies!

Vietnamese! I'm a little biased though. I'm not familiar with all the Thai dishes so I go with the few I know.
Being vietnames, I can go with beef pho or chicken pho. If I don't want that, I can go with vermicelli noodles with pork, shrimp, egg rolls or beef. If I don't want that I can go for a crab and tomato based (smaller type) noodle soup of Bun Rieu. Then there's appetizers of spring rolls or summer rolls.
As for Thai, since I don't like spicy foods and prefer vegetarian dishes over meat. I go with a tofu stir fry or Tom yum noodle soup. Depending upon the restaurant, I might go for the pad Thai. The hot and sour soups are good. If someone wants to suggest some other dishes I like, that would be great.

it depends what im in the mood for - i like both!
i tend to get the same things at each place though.
For Vietnamese, i get pho, lemon grass chicken, chicken bahnmi, or beefcubes over rice..... (the beef cubes are really dependent on which viet place i go to - someplaces arent as good!)

vietnamese! I'm not vietnamese but I have to have it once every 2 weeks at the very least.
My favs are:
- pho with everything, esp tendon and beef
- lemon grass chicken with a sunny side up egg on rice
- spring rolls!!!!!
- salad rolls
- banh mi (vietnamese baguette sandwiches)
- vietnamese coffee
- three bean icy drink with jelly
I think I have to have it tomorrow for lunch now

Vietnamese! I love lemongrass chicken skewers, and the grilled corn on the cob with green onions. The thinly sliced grilled pork with noodles and peanuts is another favorite. Oh and banh mi sandwiches! So much to love.

I love both so much but I would have to vote for Thai...bc there more variety. I love pho and the sandwiches and the cold noodle salads but I feel like there a bigger variety of Thai dishes for a nice dinner...I love all Thai nooodle dishes and I love all the different kinds of curry (especially green curry with chicken and lots of veggies). I love all the meat dishes too - ours has a delicious panang curry with lamb or a crispy duck dish

I love both, but love Thai more! I like the acidic, sweet, salty flavors of Thai food and I think there's more variety.
A tom yum soup always hits the spot, then there's pad see ew, pad thai, pineapple fried rice, thai beef salad, and all the curries - I love a good panang curry.

Vietnamese! Especially in Vietnam! It's hard to find good Vietnamese food (at least where I live) because we just don't have the ingredients they have there. Some of my favorite meals of my life were on the streets of Saigon. Sooo good.

Grilled pork chops w broken rice. Omg so yummy! They also make a vermicelli version which is also so yummy!
O, and spring roll w peanut sauce!

I prefer Thai because I find there is a lot more to choose from for my taste, however I do love them both!!
