We don't put gifts under the tree until late at night on Christmas Eve. I loved when I was little and would come down the stairs to see the gifts under the tree, I will never forget those memories! If we have gifts for other people (from us, not from Santa) we just wrap them and keep them in a closet or something until we give them away.

When I was a kid, the presents from my mom and dad and other relatives accumulated under the tree a week or so before Christmas, and then on Christmas morning there would be all the additional gifts from Santa under the tree too!

Not anymore-our pup likes wrapping paper! But growing up, we always put our presents to our siblings and parents under the tree before bed on Christmas Eve.

ETA: This is mainly because of our cats! They literally jump on all the gifts and end up clawing the wrapping paper and bows.

Yes, when they are wrapped and ready to go. I prefer it when Hanukkah is closer to Christmas, though, because that way the pile of presents looks much more substantial.

DW and I are (as I'm sure many others are as well) making up brand new interfaith holiday traditions as we go along, and will pretend these are "normal" to LO when he's old enough to ask, "what the &%#$ was going on with the menorah next to the Christmas tree which had a Star of David bauble right underneath the angel on top?". Poor LO.

Presents to others sat under the tree so we could hand them out easier and it looks more festive.
Family presents are put out Christmas Eve.

Once presents are wrapped (other than LO's) they go under the tree. The only ones that will "appear" Christmas morning are those from Santa.
@apis: We're doing the same thing. Our Christmas tree has a star of David garland ; )

Gifts for other people yes. I do have DH's under there. R's gifts won't go out till Christmas Eve after she is asleep.

Yep! Santa gifts will come out Christmas eve but we will put Lo gifts from us under the tree beforehand.

I put family gifts under there as we go, but obviously Santa ones will be Christmas Eve
my parents always shoved the gifts for family way back under the tree on Christmas Eve so Santa had room - or, they'd fill a shopping bag with the gifts near the front door so we wouldn't forget it when we left on Christmas Day to visit family, lol.

I've never even heard of not putting the wrapped gifts under the tree as soon as they're wrapped. (Except in cases of pets causing issues; I have heard of that.) My parents didn't wrap gifts from Santa, so anything from them or for other people went under the tree once they were wrapped, and they put out the unwrapped Santa gifts on Christmas Eve once I was asleep. My mom still does some unwrapped from Santa if I happen to be home for Christmas Eve/Christmas. I think I'd do the same thing we've always done (non-Santa gifts going out early) even if we decided to wrap gifts from Santa. Though that's just extra not-eco friendly, so I don't see doing that unless multiple kids complicates things. And my dad has made it work fine with my brother and sister with no wrapping, so I don't foresee a need.)
This year we actually have two full size trees, because we're temporarily living with my mom (so hers and ours). Her tree has any gifts that need to go with us to family on Christmas, our tree has the ones for those of us living in the house. It's working quite nicely to keep things organized, though neither tree is quite as excitingly full of presents this way.
@apis: How is the celebrating multiple holidays working for you so far? I'm non-religious, but a Christmas fanatic (just don't bother with the religious stuff like nativities). I'd like to do what you're doing when we have kids so we introduce them to a variety of beliefs/celebrations. Plus extra reasons to celebrate around the holidays is never a problem for me!

@torchwood: our LO is very little and so doesn't really get the whole thing yet, but we're hoping to be able to let him know about both our religions and cultures (DW is American, I'm British).
I suppose we're aiming towards getting to somewhere in that tangled mix of family histories where, when he's older, he will find something that works for him! Or at least attempting to get the best of both worlds.

When I was kid, no presents until Christmas morning. Now gifts are under the tree once they're wrapped at our house and our parents. When we have kids there'll be no gifts until Christmas morning.

I do now but probably won't after T is old enough to understand "Santa" which we will be doing. My mom put all our presents out as she bought them and still tried to do Santa and I was so confused. Lol it's not a big deal but I figured I would give T and my future LOs a few years of magic.

Yes, unless it's something impossible to wrap without being obvious (ie, DH's hockey stick) or a gift from Santa.
We live in a tiny apartment and there's nowhere to really hide wrapped presents easily, and also no place to store wrapping paper. So I buy 3 matching rolls each year and use them up as much as I can, and then the presents look all coordinated as part of the decor... and it makes me happier than it should.

We have some under now, but none for E from us. Probably in years to come we'll wait. We usually travel for Christmas, though, and BIL waits until after the kids go to bed on Xmas eve, so we'll just roll with that as long as at least one kid still believes in Santa.

I put them under right after they are wrapped. LO and our cat have managed to either open or crush half of them already though.
