When you respond to a post do you always read the post before commenting or comment based on the post title?
Some times I feel people just respond to the post title!

I always read the post. I'll have to look to see if I think people just look at the title.

Sometimes it's confusing... like I see the title and I go in ready to answer, and the post goes in kind of a different direction! So yes, I always read the post. I hope I do. But I try to respond to both the title and the post, if that makes sense....

I always read the post. BUT I've noticed what you've noticed too! Some people just seem to respond to the question posed in the title and don't seem to have read the actual post!

Same as @looch, I always read the post & unless there's a gazillion comments, I'll read them too.

I do a bit of both. I mean, I always read the actual post and all the comments before commenting but sometimes, if the post title is a question, I might answer the question without saying much about the content of the post. Sometimes the title is a question but, when you read the body of the post, it's clear that the OP is talking about a personal situation and perhaps needs a bit of advice/cheering up/congratulating. Then I comment on the post body instead.

I have noticed that sometimes people seem to respond only to the title.

I'm guilty of this - that's why I always try to make it so my posts are two parters: the thread title leads into the thread body with a question/explanation/whatever. Probably drives people crazy but it makes the responses more meaningful to me.

I always read the post, but I don't always read all of the previous comments made by others.

When I come into a post I have an answer to the title, but then I read the text and it's usually so much more nuanced, that I adjust my answer significantly!

@sloaneandpuffy: YES! This does happen and I never know how to respond! I responded to one the other day that was like that and I think the person who posted got annoyed at me for responding the way I did. LOL!
Sometimes I will see the title and just respond to it. Most of the time I will read the post itself.

I read the post then scan the comments --but I usually just answer the title because I figure that's what the main topic is and what drew people to read it.

I read the post first b/c I have noticed sometimes the title question is different than what I think the poster is actually asking. I read majority of the comments too unless I'm in a hurry. And I've noticed the same thing. I see people commenting and they are just answering the title question.
