Z Cavaricci pants (no one younger than 30 is going to have any idea what I'm talking about!). I was dying for some and finally got a peach, yes, peach, pair in 7th grade. I thought I was the coolest.
They were similar to these....only peach. I know, you're all trying to rein in your jealousy!

@Ree723: I want to see a picture of you in the peach pants! Lol!

I really wanted heeled jelly sandals. I had the flat ones.

@autumnlove: Lol! I am fairly sure there are no pictures of any such thing in existence! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
* note to self: must find pictures when I'm next at mom's house and destroy them!

I wanted jelly shoes!!!
My mom wouldn't let me have them because they'd irritate my skin. Booooo.

@Ree723: OMG, I wanted those!
I desperately wanted a Swatch watch, Reebok hightops w/ the velcro strips at the top, and a Benetton rugby shirt. I eventually got all. Oh, and Skidz.

Platform shoes! Like MASSIVE height - a la spice girls.
I got them, wore them exactly 3 times, and then gave them to my sister when I realized walking in them was impossible.
(To add insult to injury, my sister could not only walk in them fine, she could run. RUN.)

The first one I remember were the 3-stripe Adiddas. i did eventually get them, in white with baby blue stripes.

Jelly shoes were a big one!
The first one I remember that hasn't been mentioned yet is those patchwork jeans... I can't find a good photo of them but they were totally and completely ridiculous and I thought they were the coolest thing ever.

@zippylef: I TOTALLY wanted the three stripe Adidas. When I finally got them, I barely wore them...

In 5th/6th grade everyone wanted and had to get Chinese flats. The shoes were really cheap $5/ pair, but you had to get them from Chinatown. To get to Chinatown you had to take the train (oooh, so grown up!) or your parent picked them up for you.

For me it was probably bike shorts! Good lord. We used to wear them with t shirts. Why?!

Doc Marten sandals, and an Abercrombie & Fitch t-shirt that I didn't realize was kind of suggestive at the time. Oh Lawd. I take back everything I wore in high school.

I wanted LA Gear high tops in 1st or 2nd grade. I finally got a pair but they hurt so bad I barely wore them!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Ahhhhhhh, I want to get a pair for my LO!
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
@grizz: in college my mom added me to her Nordstrom card in case I had a clothing emergency. 6-8 weeks into the semester I had a clothing emergency. Mind you this was after a week spent shopping for back to school clothes at the start of the semester. She was livid when my clothing emergency was simply a spree that included "weird"Doc Martens. She just didn't get it. lol
@Leialou: I lived in jelly sandals
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
@autumnlove: These have flowers for LOs. Still cute right?

The first thing I can remember having to have were l.e.i. jeans in the 8th grade. They were the ONLY thing I had to have when we were school shopping. I wore them and my new adidas sneakers on the first day. Then, 9th grade was when the 3 stripe shell toes were in style like @zippylef: talked about. Mine had a bright yellow patent stripe. They looked like clowns shoes on me.

In middle school, all the "cool" girls wore roxy t-shirts. The larger and more pronounced the logo, the better. My mom always refused, because who wants to spend like $30 on a t-shirt for a 12-year that she will grow out of or stain after wearing it a few times?
Doc Martens were also VERY popular, and I had quite a few pairs (always thrifted, never bought new)--black mary janes, blue mary janes, black combat boots, purple combat boots, some weird clog-y ones....
Also, anything that came from the Delia's or Alloy catalog, haha.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I remember when those were really popular, too. Around 5th grade for me, too. 1995 in grunge central. I think everyone wore them with babydoll dresses. lol.

When I was in elementary school, leggings with an attached skirt were SO in, and I HAD to have them!

@septemberlove: Oh man, are those Tripp pants?! I totally had a pair. I was pretty heavily goth in middle and high school.
nectarine / 2127 posts
@zippylef: Yes! my mom was so against them! Instead I wore jeans and Good Charlotte tshirts lol

I don't remember the first, but I remember several things in middle school that everybody had to have. Birkenstock sandals, grey New Balance sneakers, L.L.Bean bookbag (embroidered with your name/nn/initials!), and Adidas windpants (black with white stripes).
nectarine / 2886 posts
@allison: Aaahhh Birkenstocks! I was DYING to get birks but my mom wouldn't let me so clever little me convinced my Dad to buy them for me when Mom was out of town! Welp, when she got home, she found out and made us return them :((((

A pair of guess jeans! A friend and I desperately wanted them. Somehow she scored two guess patches (perhaps from old pairs), we sewed them on to a pair of jeans. Bahaha. Wow, hadn't thought of that in years.

@septemberlove: I was a miniskirt, fishnets and combat boots girls, myself. hahah
