Do you remember the first trendy clothing item that you wanted?

I wore many of these things (guess jeans, zipper jeans, jelly shoes, stirrup pants) but only 4-7 years after they were cool. Yay, thrifty mom

The only thing I ever BEGGED for (and got!!) was a NEW Packers Starter jacket like my two best friends. I now realize what a PITA that had to be for my thrifty mother. She really did love me

@betsyboop: I got knockoffs. White Mountain, I think?

@MediaNaranja: OMG I forgot about the Alloy catalog!!! Hahaha.

I had jelly shoes, a couple pair, and when I was in 7th grade bell-bottom jeans were "cool" again. I wanted a pair soooo badly and finally got some...I think they had faded smiley faces on the thigh. Obviously super cool.

    ETA: And wool clogs.

@allison: Birkenstocks! I replaced mine like three times before moving on to a different sandal. They were so comfy. I never had my own pair of NB. My neighbor had a few pair, so I would wear Hhers.

@zippylef: are we twins? (if this were gold I'd share a pic from high school, haha)
fishnets, combat boots and mini skirts were my uniform!

I really, really wanted knee high Doc Martens - I settled for the 8-holes, that I bought with my first paycheck from my mall job.

    I love this thread!

I feel like I remember when Nike Air first came out and I BEGGGGGED for some. I know that I eventually got them (the first ones with the air pocket) but those ones came out way later!

And water shoes! Ha! People in my neighbourhood wore them all around like normal shoes!

And Pop Swatch--which I loved, and got for a birthday present!

    This is an amazing thread!

I wanted button up Bongo jean shorts, which are apparently back in style? (what we used to call "mom-jeans" in high school. I'm so not trendy now). Also had to have a blue plaid body suit, which my parents wouldn't let me wear when visiting family in LA because they said it was gang colors. Hahahah.

Oh and I LOVED my jellies and Doc Martens!
