I think I was in 10th grade, and it was super cool to get the free gift with purchase (because it came with a cute bag). I bought a powder from Clinique.

Clinique 3 step in jr high! I thought I was so cool buying Clinique. haha

Uhh, at age 28 I never have. Maybe that's what I'll ask for as a graduation gift, hehe.

Clinique for me too! I bought the 3-step and some lipstick (and got a free gift bag of sample stuff too!) senior year of high school, right around prom. Ah, the good old days.

I bought Shiseido face wash from their Pureness line in 11th grade--not sure if that counts. After that I bought Mac foundation in college when I was 21.

OMG - Clinique for me, too! Seventh grade I thought I was the coolest and bought Black Honey, another pinkish one (I feel like it was called Almost Kissed??) and pressed powder!

I'm almost 30 and have never bought makeup from a department store counter. Maybe I'm missing out on something big here?

Haha no! I was gifted all my makeup as a teen and never purchased stuff until I was about 20-21. And I mostly shop online

Clinique for me as well! I think it was a concealer that had a wand applicator. @ms.janedoe: Same! I think I bought that with baby sitting money in 8th grade haha.

The summer before senior year, I went to the Bobbi Brown counter to learn how to do my makeup (nicer than my stage makeup) for my senior portraits. I've used BB ever since!

Not a department store but I do remember going to get my first make-up and my first "do" at Merle Norman in the mall before one of my high school dances. I felt so grown up.
