I'd return it. Especially to use towards something I really did want and didn't get at my shower.

i don't think i would return toys, clothes or stuffed animals. i might return or exchange gear if i couldn't/didn't want to use it. last xmas, my SIL gave us a MASSIVE stuffed yellow bird. In L's tiny room, it was the only thing you saw when you walked in. I just stuffed in it in his closet finally and decided he might like it to play with when he is older.

I generally will return or exchange items I don't think we'll use. I feel badly, but at the same time it does no good just sitting in our house being not used. They just end up getting given to someone else.

My MIL is famous for buying items that just don't work for our daughter. Wrong sizes, wrong seasons, etc and she NEVER gives gift receipts. I know when I return some of them, I don't get back near what she paid and that bothers me, but at least I can use it towards something we'll get use out of.

If I don't normally see the person I usually return or add to my re-gift pile for future baby showers. I sometimes take a pic of LO with the toy though to send with a thank you note to the person who gave the gift. That way the see LO with the gift!

I return or donate anything I don't like. We got so many clothes that either weren't the right season for the size or I just didn't like. I returned everything I could and donated the rest. I even donated stuff from my mil, lol I'm heartless I guess! We got a few random stuffed animals I didn't like and weird scrapbooking supplies and I donated them too. I just can't see wasting space with things I'm never going to put her in.

I would return it. I think it is more wasteful to keep something you won't use rather than return it for something useful.
