I am an equal opportunity position sleeper. I do them all, except on my belly, which is super uncomfortable now.

everything except tummy! But my back is starting to hurt when i lay flat on my back too long!

I've been sleeping mostly on my right side because LO is laying diagonally with head near right hip and that is most comfortable since LO's weight is supported by the bed. However, I noticed yesterday that my left side (foot and hand mainly) were swollen more than my right so last night I made a conscious effort to sleep on my left side and woke up this morning with more equal swelling.

@coacheswife123: Ditto! And it is starting to make me nauseous sometimes.

I give it a good effort. I always start on my left side - but wake up in all sorts of positions. Usually on my back.

i usually switch between right and left, but i've always slept that way!

I am struggling with this so much!! The past few nights I have been super careful trying to control my movement with pillows. I know I slept on my back Friday night and I woke up Saturday with swollen ankles for the first time ever. Eek totally freaked out. I thought the baby pressing on the blood supply was an old wives tale until my feet swelled. Hope the final 10 weeks aren't a daily struggle with this for me!

I am a left side sleeper. I need to be on that side to fall asleep usually and I wake up usually on a side or on my stomach. However this pregnancy, it has just started to hurt sleeping on my left side, so I've switched to the right and now I wake up on my back all the time! Weird.

I sleep on both sides- mostly my left though. It's just the most comfortable right now! I can't fall asleep on my back and stomach sleeping at 33 weeks is definitely out of the question lol.

I might fall asleep on my left side but I move all around throughout the night.

I slept in whatever position was comfortable. Usually on one of my sides, but I had to roll over throughout the night because my hips would start to hurt if I laid on one side for too long.

I always have to sleep facing the side of the bed, not middle, so I made Hubs switch with me. I usually fall asleep on my right, but a few hours before waking up, roll onto my back. I do still fall asleep half on my stomache sometimes too.

@purrpletulips: My baby's head is near my right hip too and he/she HATES when I lay on my side. Baby has his/her hands up by the face and if I lay on my right side too long I get PUNCHED in the hip bone!

@mamamoose: ouch that sounds painful. luckily my LO doesn't mind my laying on the right side.

I had to switch sides during the night or my hips would hurt

I have been trying to sleep on my left side but the past couple of nights it hurts in my abdomen for some reason. I added a body pillow and it actually helps tremendously! I gave up on my right side because that exacerbated my round ligament pains somehow, and I'm scared to sleep on my back (though it sounds like lots of you have!)

I switch between my right and left all night long, but tend to favor my right. If I'm lounging on the sofa or consciously laying, I'll make the effort to stay on my left since it's good for baby.

I switch back and forth through out the night. I find myself sleeping longer on the right though. And lately I've woken up to a sort of half back half on right side position. I'll be somewhat on my back slightly leaning towards the right.

I'm glad other people are fessing up to back sleeping! I start out on a side, and will switch during the night, but generally wake up on my back!

Is the left side better than the right? I'm most comfortable on my right side, I think because then I'm not facing DH and I can dangle out of the side of the sheets

I am trying to not sleep on my stomach. But I still favor the right side. Why is the left better?

i get horrible heartburn...and it's immediate when i lay on my right.

@Smurfette: @cokiezombie: @blackbird: My Dr. told me something similar to this:
The best sleep position during pregnancy is "SOS" (sleep on side). Even better is to sleep on your left side. Sleeping on your left side will increase the amount of blood and nutrients that reach the placenta and your baby. Keep your legs and knees bent and a pillow between your legs.

Interesting, I've never heard that! I guess it has something to do with the way your heart pumps blood? I would think that where the placenta is would be the most important aspect of that. Wow i never knew that! I don't think i can sleep facing Dh!

I was told that the left side is best because the blood flow from the heart to the uterus goes down the right side of the spine, and - particularly when lying on your back - the weight of the uterus might compress this blood vessel.
I usually start on my left side and switch back and forth throughout the night, but I also usually wake up on my back. I have definitely freaked myself out about it, but I am relieved to hear other people do it too! I hope I would feel it somehow if I was cutting off blood flow...
