LO is 5 weeks old, and takes about 3-4 naps during the day. People always say you need to sleep when baby sleeps, but the reality of it is I have stuff to do! and usually he does not nap long, so the sleep is just a tease. What do you do?

I don't usually nap when she naps. Lately I have though since I'm always so tired.

I probably should, but I agree that there's always something that needs done. I have a hard time shutting my mind off when I know there's stuff to do, so it's hard for me to nap.

I usually do the morning nap with her because I am not a morning person. But I don't accomplish much during her other naps since she likes to sleep on me

I did not when he was a newborn and I'm totally going to this time around!
When he was older and I was a SAHM I'd nap during about half his naps. Once he was sleeping thru the night I didn't have to nap anymore (I usually hate napping).

Welcome to learning the "truths" about parenting! I never really was able to nap because like you said by the time I finally went to the bathroom, got some food and laid down she usually was getting up again.
I do try to go to bed early (as close as I can to after her bedtime) so that I can get a few good hours of sleep in before the middle of the night feeding.

I tried when LO was that little because sleep was scarce. I honestly didn't worry about laundry and household stuff for the first two months. My mom, sister and husband helped out a lot so that I could focus on my baby and myself getting/feeling better.
Around the 4-6 week mark I had enough of my own energy back that I didn't need naps during the day, and right about 6 weeks LO started sleeping better at night so it all worked out.
Don't worry too much about the house, or ask people to come help you. That is one regret I don't have - I never turned up people's help and I'm so glad I had it. If you feel you need sleep - you need it and should get it. This stage of newborn-ness only lasts so long.

I never able to. I use nap times to get things done, it's my most productive time of the day.

@mrsjazz: This exactly. She still sleeps so much better on me, so there's not much that I get done while she's sleeping other than catching up on hellobee and watching things on netflix. I try to shower when she's awake, she seems to do OK.
DH told me the other day "You need to be sleeping when she sleeps", but I am just not tired when she's finally sleeping. luckily, she sleeps well at night (again, on me), so we do get a good amount at night. I just follow her sleep schedule at night and it seems to work alright.

I wanted to, but like you said, it's really hard to sleep b/c you also need to get things done around the house. The only times I was successful napping was when someone else was watching the baby. Otherwise, she would wake up too quickly from her naps.

Not usually. LO is a decent sleeper at night so there's only been a few days where I've felt like I really needed a nap. I think even if I needed the extra sleep I'd find it pretty hard to do that over housework etc. though.

This is my least favorite piece of advice ever! My LO started taking super short naps very early on (like, 5-6 weeks) and every time I would lay down and close my eyes I would hear him wake up. Ugghhhh!!! He does much better now at 3 months but I have to help him extend his naps so I don't get the chance to sleep anyway.

I nap all the time when my 2yo nephew naps. He's been taking a 2-3 hour nap every day, so I zonk out when he does. I will definitely nap with my own kids whenever I feel the need!

I did with my first one; but with the second I hardly nap. Only because I have a toddler to take care of and also second one doesn't nap for long and eats every two hours during the day time. I do get decent sleep at night which helps. Hopefully when my second is a little older and naps longer I can nap when my oldest is napping too. Hopefully my oldest will not give up naps then!

I never really did with #1, and now that I have 2, it's pretty much impossible. The two-ish hours a day both kids are asleep at the same time I have schoolwork or housework to do; I don't have the time to nap right now.

When LO was a newborn she would nap in my arms so I couldn't. Then when she started napping in places like the swing, I wouldn't nap because I'm such a deep sleeper I would freak out thinking I wouldn't wake up if she cried. Now she sleeps through the night so I get enough sleep at night that I don't need to nap during the day.

I napped when I felt tired. So far I haven't but I have a feeling that next week (not this weekend, seeing we have plans both days) I will be napping! I'm tired

I "nap" between LO's 6 am and 9 am feeding and sometimes I'll fall asleep after the 9 am feeding...But lately baby girl has been sleeping 7 hour stretches (she's one month old today!), so I haven't needed those naps quite like I did when she was first born!
