It depends on how lazy I feel and whether or not we'll have post-nap visitors.

I used to. Then I realized what a waste of time it is.
Now we do it before bedtime!

I nanny a 9 month old, and I try to clean up as much as possible while she is napping, but that has a lot to do with the fact that it isn't my house and I'm trying to make things as easy as possible for her parents. If it were my house, I'd maybe take the opportunity to clean up the kitchen or something like that, but not so much the toys! They will all come back out again when LO wakes up, anyway. I think I'll be with you - bedtime toy cleaning only.

Sometimes. Most days it feels like wasted effort since as soon as she's up they are all over the place again.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I like her to have a blank slate, so to speak, and the toys everywhere can get overwhelming.

Depends on plans for after nap...if we'll be going out, then yes. If staying in, then no, I'd wait till bedtime.

Yes...we mostly clean up before she goes up for nap so there's not much to do once she's asleep

Yes, those in the family room anyway. Makes for more relaxing adult time.

I do. It bothers me when they're laying all over the place. I realize it's pretty pointless though.

Yes I do. Only takes a few minutes, just chuck everything into his toy basket in the living room.

I try to most days but lately I just leave them until bedtime and clean up then.

We play in her room most of the time so, no...I normally do it while DH takes care of bath/bedtime routine.

Yes! Drives me crazy. Before we leave on a workday, during naps, and definitely at bedtime.

Been trying to make the kids put their own toys away! They do it at school and daycare, so they should be able to do it at home too...

We usually play in her room, so right before nap time I sing "the cleanup song" and put her toys away. I'm hoping eventually she'll catch on and sing it herself and put her own toys away!

I do, to the extent that she doesn't clean them up with me before she sleeps. I can't do clutter.

Nah. I have my older one help me clean everything before dinner. The baby likes to clean, too, but she is still slow.
cantaloupe / 6164 posts
Y'all are funny. Unless we have company, they stay out. Putting them away is like making the bed... entirely pointless.
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
Nope, not usually. He'll just pull them all out again as soon as he gets up anyway. I put them away at night, though, just because the bulk of his toys are in the living room and I can't relax if they're all hurricaned about everywhere.

@blackbird: my husband stepped on LO's truck twice this weekend, destroying it. I step on LO's kitchen stuff and end up wiping those at least once a weekend.

No, after bedtime. Her naps are usually only 30 minutes. I'm usually scrambling doing other things before she wakes. If I'm lucky I get to sit and relax for ten minutes.

If it were a huge mess, I would make LO tidy up before nap time, bedtime, or before going out. Please note I use the word "make", because sometimes when I were unsuccessful I do pick things up myself to a more orderly fashion. If it were just a few books here and there, I'd leave it.
I think our big belief was, we want to let him get used to (and love) living in an "orderly" environment, so it would somehow grow into him that he'd *want* to clean up because he is used to living in an orderly space. Then we will have an easier life for the years to come. lol
