We always, always take our girls coats off in the car seat if they're wearing anything heavier than a fleece, but I've noticed this is not the norm here at all! We get a lot of strange looks during school drop off in the mornings when my girls get out of the car with hats and mittens on, but no coat, which has me wondering if this is as common of a practice as I thought it was....

I thought this was maybe just an American thing (albeit one the rest of the world should adopt as well), but when my mom recently shared a post on FB about the dangers of kids wearing bulky coats in car seats, she got a lot of backlash saying how over the top it was etc. Granted, the comments were mostly from people her age, but most of them have young grandchildren, which makes me wonder if the parents of the kids bother with it or not.

So just out of curiosity, do you take your kids coats off in the car seat?
