I always thought I wanted a boy first, and then a girl to have an older brother for my kids, but I had a girl first (no other kids yet) and now my thoughts have changed. I have an older brother and sister and I love that my sister is the oldest. My brother is very protective, but we don't really have a great relationship.

I don't think either is better because I think it totally depends on the personality!

Although I know DH wanted a boy first to 'protect' his younger sisters. But you can't always count on that! I know I was the first and I wasn't the caretaker for my younger brother. In fact, I resented when my mother told me to do stuff for him (considering I was only 18 months older!) because I saw it as 'babying' him.

Because of my experience growing up I wanted a girl first. I have an older brother and sister and my sister was so nurturing toward me and loved me when I was a baby. My brother ignored me. Couldn't care less that I existed.

Now I see lo at 19 months playing with her dolls, feeding them bottles, giving them diaper changes, etc. Makes me look forward to the day that shell be a big sister

I've always wanted a boy and a girl, boy first. I'm hoping this one is a boy, but if not I won't be too disappointed. I like the idea of the protective older brother. DH has an older sister and they didn't really get along growing up, so we don't really want that order!
