I've always wanted a family and kids so that's a separate thing for me!

But I think money can definitely make life easier and cause happiness.

Money comes and goes so it's not that important to me. I think personality, chemistry and physical attraction triumph money.

If I had a ton of money, I wouldn't value pay day's as much either. If it weren't for the bad days, good days wouldn't seem so good...that's how I feel about money.

@banana: being able to take the kids to disneyland at least once a year...sounds like money's not THAT big of an issue for your friend!

It's easy to attribute the stress to money problems. But stress is a way of dealing with sticky situations. Who knows, maybe even with money, there will be other things that'll stress her out?

I used to be such an idealistic person (i.e. "I don't care about money I just want a good guy , etc...), but after being married and having a child, I can totally see how money can definitely make a huge difference in life. I don't think it can buy every happiness but, on the flip side, if your marriage is strained and your constantly stressed out from worrying about finances, that's a tough boat to be in. Before I thought it was so superficial to go for a guy with money, but I can no longer fault women for it...especially if they want to stay home to raise their kids. Of course, the guy can't be a total jerk and money can't be the only reason you're going for him because that would be stupid. And there are so many other factors to think about. For example, I think that if the guy is not wealthy but he is good (meaning responsible) about finances, then that's a plus, but if he's of average wealth AND terrible with money, then that is a triple minus!! But about the wealthy guy who can't have children....is he fixed ? If he's not fixed then they can probably do IVF ? no ? But yeah, the crazy ex wife is the scary part .... =\

I think that if your friend is even factoring money into the equation then she doesn't love either of these men and she should just move on

In general I don't believe that money buys happiness. As long as you have enough to support your family more money won't mean more happiness. But I do believe that not having enough money to cover your basic needs would cause quite a bit of stress and therefore unhappiness.

@PurplePumps: No, I definitely don't think money can buy happiness, but lack of money can certainly cause unhappiness.

Totally this. If the guy who can't have is own kids is willing to try in other ways (IVF, adoption) then that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. I can't quite see these being the factors I'd base who I want to spend the rest of my life with.

That said, if someone was really bad off financially, I could see that factoring in. I know my career wasn't going to ever make me rich, and I really wanted to be a SAHM, so I guess if I knew that would never be an option with a guy, that would factor in (but not be a deal breaker).

Money makes things easier, but that is it. Even people with money have problems because they dont know how to manage their wealth! No matter how much you have, you will always want or think you need more.

I dont think it is a wealthy husband your friend needs, but someone who will make her happy regardless of how much money they have, and who has their life together.

@banana: Yikes, I think that her current financial woes are probably swaying her judgment a bit. Does she expect the guy with the money to bail her out? I don't know, the way you presented it makes it sound like she's not thinking this through.

I agree that money makes life easier, but if the underlying relationship isn't strong, money isn't going to solve any problems. I work at a bank in a department that deals with rich individuals, and I've seen heaps of nasty divorce decrees. Based on that alone, I'd say that money doesn't buy happiness.

The average guy wins out in my book. He's not broke, right? I wouldn't want to be destitute, but average and happy is just fine. Rich, having no kids, and dealing with crazy exes? No thanks!

I think if you want a family, then having a family of your own is pretty invaluable.
