I am a much worse worker now that I am a mother! It makes me so bummed out. I honestly feel way less intelligent. My job deals with a LOT of detail and I just don't have the brain space. I also feel even worse because my boss (who is an AMAZING boss) has a 1.5 year old and never misses a beat.

I don't think I'm worse necessarily. I think my priorities have shifted. My job also doesn't inspire or motivate me at the moment.
I'm less about staying late and all about getting home to baby.

Like @katsupgirl:, I have different priorities. I don't want to be at school later than I have to be because I want to get home to my LO.
But I think motherhood has made me a better teacher in some aspects. It's easy to forget that my 4-5 year old students are still so young. Since having LO, I really think about the fact that those kids are someone's "baby." It changes the way I interact with their parents, too.

Yes, and no. I'm much more efficient with the time that I have, but I have much less time to devote to work. (My job is more than 40 hours per week, and it could be a lot more than 40 hours if I could find the time. These days my time with DD comes first.)

I know I'm way worse at my job. I was never great at it to begin with, and now I take my kid to work with me, so there's lots if days we just play with playdoh and draw instead of me working. Whatever.

Sadly yes, I can't remember anything and I have a hard time focusing 100%. I am not sure why I can't focus like I use to, LO isn't on my mind all the time but something up there got messed up and hasn't gotten better.

I'm more focused and motivated, because I want to set a good example for LO someday! Practically, though, I know I make more mistakes when I'm exhausted from staying up all night. Hopefully it balances out!

I am more motivated and more ambitious, but I am also less willing to deal with BS. I come, I do my job, and I want to get home. I don't have time for drama or mismanagement. I work in an office of all women right now and the drama is off the charts. I am also having a hard time because I want to change jobs, but it is *very* difficult to find a job in my field that can match my salary and that I could still work 40 hours/week. I am NOT willing to work more, but I wasn't before I had a baby either.

@skibobrown: ditto. I used to work late all the time just because. Now I put in my hours and then I'm out of there. I think I'm the same worker as before, other than time devoted.

I think I'm better. I am more patient with the kids and expect more independence from them. I also seem to relate to parents more because I think of talking to myself when I have to deliver news.

I'm more efficient than before, for sure, but now I have to leave at a certain time for daycare pickup, and the on call part of my job is more difficult.

I think it makes me better at my job. I work with kids and have to talk with their parents all day. It definitely gave me a new perspective.

I'm nervous about going back to work in May because I fear I may need nursing school all over again! When I was pregnant, it was hard to focus a lot of the time. Now, after being off for a year, I'm scared I won't even know what to do anymore!!

Yes, i totally get what you mean about sometimes not feeling like you have the brain capacity to do the job. I'm still good at my job, but i have some major fail moments due to mommy brain.

I think I'm a better worker. Honestly, returning to work after maternity leave saved me. I nearly lost my mind at home and of course my ppd didn't help. But when I returned to work, in a weird way, I appreciated my job more.

I have a specialized skill and I will admit, there are things I have forgotten over the years, but it's all come back to me when I needed it. People have remarked to me it is like I have never left (I took a total of 4 years away from this role, 2 abroad, 2 not working).

I think just being pregnant has already made me less good at my job. I just don't have the motivation I did before, especially since I will be a SAHM when LO is born.

@Dagny: I don't think my work quality is lower, i just don't "care" as much. That sounds bad, but before I would kill myself being the most chargeable worker, but now, I'm happy doing a good job and not trying to be top of my class.

I'm here for a paycheck. I used to have a huge priority on my work but I've shifted my priorities. I do well enough that I'm not at risk to get canned or anything crazy like that but I don't care as much and don't have as much attention to detail, my memory is very foggy!!!

I think it depends on the day and the season in life (pregnancy vs. new parent). During my pregnancy, I was having to handle the strain of a fetus with markers for Downs and GD solo while my husband traveled, which caused several mistakes (I edit things, so misspelled words in publications). Now as a new mom returning to work, I'm less willing to work extra hours other than what's required at events, but I feel like I have more of my mind available and am more focused at work, so the volume of errors is way down. Naturally, all that flies out the window if I haven't slept well for a few nights in a row, but I am working much harder now to try not to let that happen.
