We have our house on the market and have a showing tomorrow night. Neither of us are neat freaks (I would be if I had more time/energy!) but I'm much more particular about things like making the bed well, toilet seats down, etc...DH wouldn't even notice.
There's a showing tomorrow and I can't help prep since I'm 2 hrs away...I know it won't be the way I'd want it. Would your DH do things right? Do you micromanage bc I've sent a LOT of texts about how to do things...

I think he could, but there are definitely times when I am not sure and I have to keep myself from nagging. DH tends to leave cabinet doors open, the lights in the bathroom/bedroom on, and other random things that just drive me crazy, but I have found that saying something about it doesn't usually help. Bah!

DH will always need direction. His idea of cleaning up is pushing his dirty clothes into a corner, where I can't see them.

I live by the saying if you wants things done right, do them yourself. I would not rest easily if my husband was left to tidying up. Then again I'm ocd about cleaning!

If there is nothing else I can thank my MIL for I can for sure be forever grateful that she taught DH how to CLEAN... he's AMAZING! There might be some things I would like that he'd overlook but I could rest assured it would be super presentable.
I'm sure your DH will do a good job though as I'm sure he'd like to sell your house as much as you.

My DH is awesome at cleaning and organizing. E dry thing may not be done how I would do it, but I'm just happy to not have to do things.

He's a better cleaner than I am, but I can 'straighten up' a room better, so it's a wash for us

No!! We had a showing once when I was gone and DH had changed E and left the diaper on the changer!!! Eww. Normally he would have thrown it away but he was too stressed out with cleaning everything else.
I made a check list for myself when there was a showing though and he followed it every time too. Good luck!!! I hope it sells QUICK!!

DH has a MUCH lower cleanliness threshold than I do, and his idea of cleaning the kitchen involves putting whatever dishes are in the sink into the dishwasher...doesn't notice if there's a pot on the stove, doesn't wipe down the counters, will keep shoving things into the full garbage can, etc. It drives me crazy! I feel like if I don't clean it myself, it won't get done!

Yep! The army made him pretty darn clean! Neither of us micromanage. My way is not right and vice versa. If we always "save" them, they'll always expect us to swoop in and rescue them from said task

Oh yeah, he's way better than I am at quickly making the house look clean. Deep cleaning, though, is my domain.

I micromanage, I'm trying to stop this. But DH used to live like a slob before me so I don't trust him to clean anything to my standards. Like let his dishes mold before cleaning them, slob or his mom would come over and do them for him ::rolling eyes::

Yes, I think I could. I think if I was there, he would do the jobs he "knows how to do" like clean the kitchen and poop scoop the garden if required- then he would dither around the rest of the house, requiring direction and not quite doing things to my standard. But if he was there alone, he would probably make the house look better than I could!!

I used to micromanage, but sometimes after our second was born, I decided as long as the work got done it didn't really matter "how." And we're all much happier, now that I've let go, lol!

@Honeybee: Letting go is key . . . for everyone's sanity!
@babyjmama: You can't control it, so just try to relax and let your DH handle it. Sweating the small stuff gets you worked up and your DH feeling like you don't trust his judgment - not good for either one of you. As far as your house goes, as long as it is clean and not cluttered, potential buyers will not notice the things that you notice.

@Honeybee: @MsLipGloss: that whole 'letting go' thing is going to be a MAJOR adjustment :)I have always been the leader/facilitator. I need to just let him go and do it....but it's hard bc I want the house to be perfect for a showing. It's a woman coming so I told him to buy flowers. He was like 'wtf'you she has a vagina, she likes pretty things, just do it!

He does a good job cleaning when he wants too. Usually if people are coming over it puts a spring in his step. So I would trust him to clean up before a showing.

Dh does a good job cleaning but it usually takes a little encouragement/nagging to get him started.
