DH and I have both noticed a tiny bit of red around lo's bum. We make sure to wipe well with each diaper change, and it looks more like it's irritation. Maybe we are wiping too much? All we use are huggies wipes, and pampers diapers. Do you use any sort of cream as a preventative measure? I have a sample of Boudreaux, and a sample of California Baby Diaper rash cream. I'm thinking of picking up some Aquaphor to use with each change maybe (I use it for my own sensitive skin.)

I only use cream if things are looking red. We use Boudreaux in the green tube and I have found that it clears up any rashes or redness extremely fast, like within half a day!

We used to use coconut oil at every change (cloth diaper safe), and then California Baby if things looked irritated. As he's gotten older and pooping less, we only use the CB if it starts to look red down there.

I used aquaphor at every change, and triple paste if he was red/rashy. They poop SO much in the beginning that LO was often red for the first few months.

We use Desitin at night, but otherwise don't use anything during the day unless there's a rash. I do make sure the area is dry before covering it with a new diaper, though.

You might just try a moist cotton ball, wipes can be irritating.

We generally didn't use anything, but the few times LO looked slightly rashy, we used triple paste and it disappeared within about 6 hours. That stuff is amazing.

We used A+D cream or Sudocrem in the beginning because mountains of poop!

Triple Paste is my go to when he's really red or rashy. He had a bout where he got such bad diaper rash from teething that he had open areas on his bum. The only thing that cleared him up was the Triple Paste, and I've used it ever since. It's super pricey, but works really well.

After a painful rash I got some advice here. I've used Aquaphor at each change since and there's been no more rash. He's a good sleeper too, he goes 4 solid hours at night without a change (unless I know he's popped).

We just gave her a bath, and the redness has spread- must be diaper rash! I used the sample Boudreaux. I'll start using Aquaphor once it clears up. Hopefully, it's just from her going poop so much. She also slept 4.5hrs straight last night, but I still changed her 3x during the night.

I only wipe for poop. I always let her bum air dry before putting on a new diaper. We use unscented wipes. Also we cloth diaper. We rarely every get redness but if we do we just wait until bed and put on some cream (bourdeoux in green tube) and it is always gone by morning.

I noticed more irritation when we used the huggies triple clean wipes vs the regular style. We used creams and powder only when things were red. Most times it took using the cream for a day or two and it cleared up. Also, give them a bath and a little air time without a diaper. I found too that instead of wiping the area, dabbing at it helped to when it was red. We really like Monkey Butt powder. It seems to work the quickest for us.

We always let her air out for a couple of minutes before fastening the diaper (because we are slow with the changes lol). Thanks for all the advice!!

I think a bath helps to get rid of any bacteria, poop or pee that might have gotten left behind that you really can't see. Hope she gets better soon

aquaphor or A+D ointment with every change, per my ped. We very rarely get a rash. I think it took 4 months to finally get one because we went through a poop-in-the-middle-of-the-night phase
For the rare rash I use triple paste! That stuff is amazing.
ETA: we also switch it up to Water Wipes when he has a rash. I don't think regular wiped irritate him at all, but I feel better using just water when he has a rash to not irritate further. -
We use cloth during the day so we use the Green Butt Paste when needed and at night i use Triple paste with a disposable.
You can always try cutting up a clean tee shirt and using a water spray bottle instead of commercial wipes.
Lots of naked air drying time helps too

We use aquaphor. He's not as sensitive now that he's older, but all other creams used to give him a rash. We could use disposable wipes occasionally but had to use cloth wipes with water at home.

Another vote for A+D ointment. We use it with each change, though we could probably ease up at daycare since they change her every 2 hours. At night we slap on a nice thick coat.

I'm a big believer in prevention. We use A&D with every change and start Butt Paste with the first onset of redness. We've had very little issue with rashes.

We only use it when there are signs of redness. Boudreaux clears up any hint of rash super fast!

That was fast. It's already clearing up with the butt paste! Like same day clearing up! We will pick up Aquaphor or A+D today depending on what the grocery store has

I asked my ped if we should be using cream with each diaper change, and she said no, that it was analogous to using medicine when you're not sick. Aside from when he was a newborn to help prevent the meconium from sticking to his skin, we've only ever used cream when he had redness. We use Burt's Bees non-petroleum based multi-purpose ointment.

We did not, I was prepared for massive bouts of diaper rash, but we hardly used anything. When we did, it was the Weleda Calendula cream.

@Astro Bee: I wonder if your ped meant the kind with zinc oxide or medicated stuff? Like desitin, triple paste, etc.
Aquaphor is basically just petroleum jelly, all it does is block the moisture and pee/poop from contacting the skin directly. I wonder what he/she thinks about that? The hospital and my ped both instructed me to use it.But if there's one thing I've learned after having an LO it's that everyone, even doctors, have different opinions! I take comfort in that, reminds me that no matter what, I can't be wrong

With DD1 hardly ever and only when there's a rash. But DD2 gets a rash SO easily and it gets bad really fast! So I put a small dab almost every diaper change as a preventative measure. I need to put a small amount of coconut oil in her diaper basket and use that in between rashes.

@SweetiePie: You're right, I'm sure that's what she meant. FTM! I still haven't used anything regularly, but he's been fine. Luckily he doesn't seem to have sensitive skin. You're right about there being so many opinions, medical and otherwise. I think the best bet is to follow whatever works for your LO.

I love burts bees diaper rash cream. It seems like it repels poop! She will have a poopy diaper but her cheeks still have a good layer of cream on it with no visible poop stuck to it. So I will put that on before bed and during the day if its looking a little pink. I also dap, not wipe and won't do anything with some just urine diapers because wipes can be dry and irritating.

We've hardly used anything at all on LO since she was born and we've never had redness or a rash. She had a tiny bit of chapping on her butt cheeks at a few weeks old, and 24 hours of applying butt paste fixed that problem. Other than making sure she's clean, we try to minimize how much we are messing with her during each change. And I also don't want to use much stuff that could damage our cloth diapers.

@Mrs.Pinecone316: I am glad to meet another mom in the "don't wipe every pee diaper" camp. Sometimes I feel like it is considered gross - when I'm in public or around others I always wipe all pee diapers so I look like a good mom.
But diapers are SO absorbent, a lot of the time she is already dry if she didn't pee a ton, and it seems counterintuitive to reintroduce moisture with a potentially irritating wipe.
