We do because it's what our pediatrician recommends. Our pediatrician actually won't accept your lo as a patient if you don't want them vaccinated.

I just follow our Dr's guidelines and vaccinate on schedule.

Yep! Both kids are vaccinated. This is a hot topic, but I wouldn't feel comfortable having my kids around kids who aren't vaccinated.

We definitely vaccinate. Almost none of the pediatricians in Chicago are willing to even do a modified/delayed schedule (not that I personally was looking for one). I don't know if any dr. in town would be willing to not vaccinate at all, at least here.

I hope this isn't thread jacking, but how do you enroll your child into school if you choose not to vaccinate him/her?
ETA: I plan on vaccinating DS on schedule. Just curious!

We vaccinate on schedule, I'd feel weird letting LO interact with non-vaccinated children.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
Not here yet, but we will, probably on schedule. I just feel the definite, obvious benefits far outweigh the possible risks. I wouldn't feel very comfortable with an infant around a child who wasn't vaccinated, until my baby was a little older and had all his vaccines already.

Yes for all vaccines, except we opted not to do the varicella vaccine. X will get the vaccine later if he hasn't gotten chicken pox within the next 5-10 years. (Which I realize is less and less likely as more and more kids get the vaccine.)

Yes. Though we did a delayed schedule for certain things like Hep B. I spoke with our pediatrician about some of my concerns and we came up with a delayed schedule together. I just didn't want to be bombarding her with all these things as a tiny baby--and since she wasn't going to daycare it was cool. She's basically on schedule now.

We do. Both my husband and I have done infectious disease research in the lab so we've seen the effects first hand (well in mice) and so are big believers in vaccines.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
We definitely vaccinate and it scares me to think of her being around kids who aren't.
clementine / 828 posts
We vaccinated per our pediatrician's recommendations. It never occurred to me to not vaccinate.

Yes, on schedule. For us, the benefits far outweigh any risk(s).

Yep...but not flu vaccines. DS and I have never had the flu. If it ain't broke...
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
We're vaccinating on schedule. For us, the positives of making sure he's protected greatly outweigh potential negatives of the vaccines themselves, especially since there are a lot of unvaccinated children near where we live/where we'll be moving soon. Not worth the risk.
ETA: We were offered the flu vaccine at our visit last week but did opt to decline that one. DH and I both got flu shots this year, flu season is nearly over and DH isn't in daycare at the moment, so we felt comfortable not giving him one. We likely will in subsequent years, however.

Absolutely positively will vaccinate according to the guidelines. Like @FutureMrsMcK, I think the positives far outweigh the risks. I know it's a hot topic, but I think it's dangerous not to vaccinate (not delayed schedule, that's one thing, I mean not vaccinating at all). We will be watching her closely when we give her the whooping cough vaccine though, because I had a reaction to it.
grapefruit / 4819 posts
Absolutely. I haven't heard one convincing argument to persuade me to not vaccinate, but have heard an awful lot of reasons convincing me it's a good thing, so it's a no brainer for us. I just don't see why I wouldn't do everything I could to protect my LO and keep her safe.
cantaloupe / 6610 posts
Yep, on schedule...I 1000% trust our Ped and always do what he recommends for her.!
grapefruit / 4649 posts
I will, possibly spacing them out a bit but I have a compelling health reason to consider that option. One of my biggest reason to vaccinate is that there are so many people who rely on the "herd immunity" that I don't want to mess with that, I have a family member that would likely not survive most of the things we vaccinate for and they cannot be vaccinated so we rely on others to keep them safe.

just curious, what are some reasons to not vaccinate? i know autism was a big concern, but hasn't that study been proven fasle?
pomegranate / 3604 posts
Definitely vaccine & on schedule.
You know that disease, polio? Oh that's right, you don't, BECAUSE THERE'S A VACCINE.
clementine / 818 posts
I'm still pregnant as well, but we will vaccinate, likely with a modified schedule, but I will discuss options/ suggestions with our chosen pediatrician.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@jmarionsmith: correct, there is no link between autism and vaccines.
We will vaccinate. I believe very strongly In it, not just for my child's health, but also because I believe we have an obligation to protect those who cannot tolerate vaccinations because of age, weakened immune systems, etc.
blogger / pomelo / 5400 posts
Absolutely. I would rather listen to years and years of medical scholarship than Jenny McCarthy.
grapefruit / 4649 posts
@jmarionsmith: I am fairly certain that the autism link has been 100% disproven. I think that some people worry about the ingredients in the vaccines and giving it to such a little body-- when you think about going out of your way to give your child organic everything etc. I get the sentiment behind their concern even if I think the benefits out weigh the downsides.
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
We vaccinate on schedule as recommended by our pediatrician's practice.

@Cole: thank you. i respect that perspective, but like you i think the benefits outweigh the risks.

@travelgirl1: @oliviaoblivia: @chopsuey119: just playing devils advocate here since I hear this a lot and feel for parents who don't vaccinate: if you are so certain that vaccines are effective, then why would you worry about your children being around one who is unvaccinated?
@rahlyrah: there is a form: for religious, philosophical or conscientiously opposed parents you can opt out of the requirements. This goes for daycare, preschool and all of school.
We are doing an alternate schedule.
