I don't and apparently I am missing out. The stars of the show will reportedly receive a million per episode for the next three seasons (8-10). I can't even remember the last time a series lasted beyond 7 seasons.

I think it is ridiculous they are getting paid that much. Same when Friends did. It is a TV show. But celebrities in general are so over paid.

Yes, I LOVE the show! This also reminded me of when the stars of Friends started receiving a million per episode and everyone thought it was crazy, haha.

We love it! I really want my very own Sheldon. A million dollars an episode is what the FRIENDS' cast ended on, I believe, and I'm not sure it's at that level, but frankly, I'm sure they make zillions more for the network than that, so good for them.

I think it's hilarious, we were late to the game and started watching the reruns. I think a million is a little steep, I don't think it's Friends level...but then again that was over 10 years ago?

It took us a while to get on board, but we love it. Especially as the characters develop over the seasons. Not that it's a super deep show, it definitely has a cheese factor to it, but if you can overlook that it's hilarious!

Not to be a nerd.... but Friends ended ten years ago, if we consider the Time Value of Money and assume an average annual inflation rate of 2.5% the BBT cast would have to make $1.28mm per episode to really be equivalent to Friends, so, don't worry, they aren't really as highly compensated.

I like the show, and I don't have any problem with the stars getting higher salaries. They are what made the show successful, and there's no reason that the network should continue to make more and more while the actors keep making the same amount.
The other actors in the show aren't nearly as integral and the show could still go on without them, so I think it makes sense that the stars get higher salaries.

My DH and I are geeks, so of course many people we know (who are not geeks) recommended it to us. We watched five episodes and were disgusted with it. The show is written to make the audience laugh at the nerds, not with them. Oh, they are so weird and unsocialized, ha ha ha! Look, they mentioned physics and DnD, that is hi-lar-i-ous. The jokes really weren't that funny. Most of them relied on the same tired cliches over and over again.
My DH and I have been steeped in the geek culture the show supposedly illustrates for decades. It isn't any more realistic or respectful of geeks than a show would be of African Americans that had white people dress up in black face and dance rag time while eating watermelon.

@Skadi: My husband and I are geeks too and we LOVE Big Bang Theory. We can totally relate to a lot of the things they are interested in and totally get them getting all excited about geeky things like Star Wars marathons and games of DnD!
We LOVE this show! It's our favorite comedy! And I have no issue with them making lots of money!!
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Smallville, Supernatural, and Stargate SG-1 lasted 10 seasons (and Supernatural is still on)!! And I think How I Met Your Mother made it to 8 seasons. And who knows how many seasons Grey's Anatomy has been on - that show just won't stop!!
