I seriously feel like some of my friends look down on me for not cloth diapering. It's really frustrating. I am going back to my full time job in September. I hate doing laundry and I hate messes. I'm all about saving money but I'm doing that by finding the best deals on disposable diapers. 
Has anyone else run into this?

I don't know a single person in real life who cloth diapers, so nope! They would be more likely to think I was crazy if I DID cloth diaper!

Nope, quite the opposite. My friends think we're nuts because we plan to try cloth diapering, and in fact most react with, "Really? [scoff] Good luck." I just keep reminding myself "to each their own!"

Yeah just the opposite, it's rare to cloth diaper. Most cloth diaper moms also happen to read baby forums lol but no, I don't know 1 person in real life who cloth diapers, or cloth wipes, or breastfeeds.
They would very much think cloth diapering is disgusting, and look down on me. Just ask my lovley MIL

I think my friends look down on me because I cloth diaper. Whenever we see friends they want to talk about poopy diapers and how I should just get over it and buy disposables!

I feel like I'm among the minority in the blogosphere, but IRL, I only know one CD'er and she's very non-judgy. CD'ers have my respect, but like you, I am so not ready to do that much laundry, and I get disposables for cheap. Also, if you had seen the diapers I've been dealing with lately, you'd know why I'm glad to bundle that crap (literally) up and be done with it instead of standing over a toilet with a hose in my hand

I'm not entirely convinced of the argument that cd is cheaper than disposables anyway.

Even if you use disposables you should put the poop the toilet. I know most people using disposables don't bother, but it helps protect the water supply.

I only have 1 friend who cloth diapers as well. It is each persons own choice. All I have to say is don't knock it (either way) before trying it.

@Mrs. Yoyo: Sorry, I'm kinda hijacking the thread. It may sound crazy but it is kinda cathartic to hose that stuff down into the toilet. It's about the only time I don't have someone trying to bother me. But, with our issues I am very insistent on seeing all poop (on cloth and disposables).

I don't know many people who cloth diaper and friends have actually told me that they are surprised that I don't cloth diaper, although they don't look down on me for it.
Family members, on the other hand, seem to think cloth diapering is a ridiculous hassle and have said 'good luck!' when I mentioned it in the past.

One of my HS classmates cloth diapers, but I only know because she mentioned it on Facebook. Otherwise, I don't know another person IRL that does!

On the flip side, cloth diapering is still pretty new and I also don't have a lot of mommy friends (yet) so everyone looks at me like I'm crazy for even wanting to try CDing...

I'm surprised how many people I know IRL that do cloth diaper. Maybe it's because most moms I know I met through either a breastfeeding support group or a mommy group (most are SAHMs)...many cloth diaper but there are also lots of moms who don't and I haven't come across any judgment. I use gdiapers (cloth and flushable)

I do have another friend that is planning on cloth diapering and she isn't judgmental about our decisions at all. And of course I think whatever works for her and baby, is fantastic.

Now that I think about it...the ones who are judgey are the ones who are currently pregnant. I have one friend who does cloth diapering IRL and she is a non-judgey sort so she doesn't. I wonder how long my judgey pregnant friends will keep up with their cloth diapering? Hmmm..
Also, I have no problem with people who cloth diaper. Actually, I praise you for it because it's a lot of work! I know I could never do it so, go you!

I only know 1 person who cloth diapers in real life, and we don't talk about diapering. My mom asked me if I was going to cloth diaper since she used cloth with both me and my brother and started to talk about how wonderful cloth diapering is, but I shut that conversation down with a simple "daycare doesn't allow cloth diapers".

Cloth diapering is not that new, and my mom and mil were happy and surprised i decided to cloth diaper. I was cd-d as a baby, but mainly bc disposables were too expensive for my parents back then. Using disposables meant you had money!
I didnt even think about cd-ing until my husband of all people suggested it (more for enviro reasons). I got a lot more raised eyebrows and snarky comments about my decision to cd from friends, only because they didnt think i could handle it once the baby came.
Ignore people who get all high and mighty because they cd or buy organic or exclusively breastfeed. Parenthood is overwhelming enough in the beginning, and if you hate laundry, why add more stress?!

We're one of the first couples of our friends to have a baby, and we pretty much get looks of horror when they hear we're planning on CDing...but they also get looks of horror about diapers period

@regberadaisy: It really depends on the type of cloth you buy. My sister was able to spend less than $200 on her stash (including diaper pail, liner, wet bags, cloth wipes etc), and hasn't bought one additional thing. Obviously $200 for 2+ years is cheaper than disposables. But then there are people like me who think it's fun to buy them and have spent $500+ on diapers... oops. I am trying to recoup the cost though. BUT since I would be using organic diapers if I wasn't Cloth diapering, it is a savings for me..
Actually - I'm the opposite problem - I WORRY that my friends think I'm judging them for not cloth diapering, which I totally don't! Like @Mediagirl said, some people just can't do it and that's totally understandable! I don't care whether my friends choose to CD or not - frankly it's none of my business. But I do think it is commonplace for anyone who does something differently to *appear* "judgy" simply for doing it differently.
And I do know quite a number of people who CD in real life - definitely more than 10!

opposite-land here: I'm the only cloth gal around here.....wait, there is one person I know, just one. Everyone else just periodically asks how the cloth diapering is going and then says "I couldn't deal with the grossness of it". Makes me feel like they think I'm gross or something.

@Mrs. Yoyo: yeah, I can't garuntee it for you. But for me it wasn't so bad. I truly believe it is whatever works. We use both cloth and disposable do I can't thimb my nose at anyone lol. I use cloth cause they are cute and I can color coordinate.

It may not make much of a difference in the US since there are better deals to make disposables cheaper, but it is cheaper overall. I spent about $350 for my entire system.

I know a few people who cloth diaper in real life. We were planning on it, but we don't have our own washer/dryer so we're using disposables until we move in September and have our own units.
Cloth diapering is technically not new! My sister and I were cloth diapered!
The only judgey people in my real life about any of the parenting stuff are non-parents who *think* they know the deal. My mommy friends/acquaintances are awesome.

I cloth diaper my son. He's 15 months now and has been in cloth most of his life, except following a round of antibiotics. Those diapers were so nasty there was now way I was sticking with cloth. We offset the initial cost by buying used diapers online and adding a few new ones here and there to our stash and selling off the ones we didn't like. DH and I both work full time with 35-60 minute commutes each way, so it is possible to do it while working if you want to. Also we use cloth when we are out and about, even when we are traveling. It adds 2 loads of laundry a week, but DH does all of the regular laundry, so I don't really notice. I don't soak or rinse, dunk or spray, so it really is easy. I get more poop on my hands changing a diaper than I do washing his cloth diapers, and a simple washing of my hands takes care of it. We also use disposables at night though, since we haven't found a single diaper (cloth or disposable) that DS can't wet through during the night and they keep him dryer.
I don't really care what other people do. I do like to tell people about cloth, because many people don't know that they are much different than they used to be and are much easier to use. But I try not to be preachy and get too into it, unless the person wants to know more. I prefer cloth and I hate to take pictures of DS when he's not wearing a cloth diaper and I don't like to let him run around in just a disposable diaper, but that's just because compared to his cloth diapers, disposables look so ugly.

Nope. I get jokes about "you're STILL cloth diapering??" How is it working for you?" Etc, etc.
I love CDing, but if I didn't the jokes of me giving up would make me keeping doing it just to spite the naysayers.
My mom was surprised because she cloth diapered us.LOL She likes the new verion, a lot easier.
