If so, what kind? Their bike helmet? A ski helmet? Something else?

No, we go tubing every other year and the kids have never worn helmets. I've never seen anyone wear helmets while tubing/sledding either!

@Mamaof2: @HLK208: this is making me feel better. I was ordering a sled on Amazon and all of the "suggested items to go with your purchase" were helmets! I was starting to feel like a degenerate parent.

@Madison43: hahaha. I've never seen a child wear a helmet sledding either!
Unless you were in my family and made jumps out of ice and snow and had a great potential for injury lol!

huh, i hadn't even thought of this. i guess if LO were older and going faster and taking risks, i might be "that" parent and make him wear a helmet, but i'm thinking when he's a tween or teenager. do you even use the word "tween" for boys? i'm so out of it.

No we won't have her wear one but I do know of someone who died sledding - they went headfirst into the pole of a fence. In my opinion, you shouldn't have your kid sled down a hill with a fence at the end. Kind of sounds like a recipe for disaster and should have been able to see it coming.

Never heard of this. Sledding IS super dangerous, though, but we do mini little inclines at this point.

No helmets here. Granted, we only go in the snow once a year, but no helmets when we do.

Yeah. I mean ok she hasn't been sledding yet but she'll wear her helmet. A kid got hurt pretty seriously sledding in a park near us. Feet first and helmet until she's maybe a tween/teen. I don't see the difference in safety vs. wearing a helmet when riding a bike unless you're going down a small incline.

No but we just pull them around. It's a great idea and when they start going down hills maybe we will have them do it. My husband's uncle died sledding as a kid so it's somethings that makes me nervous.

Parks are closing for sledding around where we are due to lawsuits for injuries sustained while sledding. Crashing into trees and other children is the number one cause. I don't have a sledding age child yet, but I don't know..... Moderate speeds and an inability to control your direction coupled with lots of other kids doing the same things makes me think I will helmet my kid. We helmet them when learning to ski and they are going much slower. so I guess I don't see the difference *except* I'm sure there is the pack mentality of"well no one else's kid is wearing one so it must be ok". That's not ok with me

No. It never occurred to me. I was the only mom who brought their kid skating without, too. Oops. He wears one for skiing though.
