Nope, our house in general is super tight.

It used to! Last year we had an energy audit and it was shocking to see how much air was leaking out. We ended up replacing several windows on the front of our house and our front door, so it is much better now.

Nope! Our house is only a few years old and the whole house is energy star. What we spend heating this house (2600 sq ft single family home) is less than half (sometimes 1/3) what I used to spend heating my old 900 sq ft half-duplex that was old and so leaky. love love love.

@mrbee: Basically a guy came over and set up this thing over our front door. It had a fan on it to create an inward draft on the house. That gave a reading of energy lost. Then we walked around and he used two tools to evaluate drafty areas. One was something computerized that showed hot and cold spots on a little screen. The other was a little device that let out a puff of smoke. He'd watch how the smoke reacted (did it fall down slowly or get blown away?) From those things he could tell where problems areas were.

yes, they are terrible. our bedroom (if we don't have our heater wall unit on) can get into the 40s on a really really cold day. i seriously think they forgot to put insulation in the walls. plus the cracks around the wall unit, plus the drafty windows. its ridiculous.

Yep, and technically they're common property for the townhouse complex, so we can't replace them.
