We chose to do the NT scan at 13 weeks because our doctor suggested it (we weren't in the risk category, but we live far from our family, and she said it would be good to have all of the info), and because the lab that performed the scan told us it was covered by insurance.

I just got a statement from our insurance company saying that we owe the provider $600 for the scan!!

I have a GREAT plan, and my deductible for the year is only $1,000, but still ... I had NOOO idea this scan would be this much. Insurance covered $80 of it.

I'm looking through my plan now to see if I missed something, but the lab's insurance 'specialist' told me that prenatal screening was covered by my plan. Otherwise, we would have skipped it. Did any of you experience anything like this? What did you do about it? Is this an issue with insurance or the lab?

UGHHH!! This is why I HATE the medical/insurance system. Our midwives lay everything out clearly, and there is no guessing. Cannot wait to have my 1st appointment with them.
