Does anyone cross stitch? I've never done it before but I came across two awesome templates and I was wondering if someone seasoned can let me know if they're terribly difficult?

@keiki_mama: me! Neither one looks too difficult - it's all normal cross stitches, no outlining, the writing would be the hardest part, but overall pretty simple.
ETA: here's one I made for a friend's LO. It's about 9x12. The hardest part was outlining everything (excuse the censored, IG filtered pic)

They look pretty easy! I've only ever done kits but those look simple enough.

I haven't done it in years, but those look super easy!!

@Shutterbug: Wow, that's amazing! Thanks for your input!
@hotchildinthecity: @Smurfette: Thanks ladies!
How much do y'all think I'm looking to spend to get started? I have zero supplies.

@keiki_mama: the thread is super cheap. The backing and hoop aren't super expensive. Just need to use coupons from Michael's and you should be able to get it all fairly cheap.

@keiki_mama: each thread color is like $0.40 at a craft store, then you just need some cross stitch cloth (cotton Aida), a needle and maybe a hoop to hold the cloth tight. All that is probably under $25 at Michael's or wherever.

I've been cross stitching since I was 8 (my mom did it). My guess for both designs -$30ish (estimate based on colors). Don't forget needles! I'd use the aida cloth if it's your first try. The linen is harder to work with/keep track of. You might also want masking tape to tape the sides of the cloth so it doesn't fray around the edges.
This is the one I've been working on for a few years now (very sporadically). It's going to be Cinderella and her fairy godmother. And now that I look at it, I'm super annoyed with the way I started it (too close to the edge). It's going to make it a pain to frame.

@keiki_mama: Thanks! Hopefully, it will go in a little girl's room in the somewhat near future. Let me know if you get stuck on anything or have questions. I'm happy to help. Sometimes the patterns/instructions are frustratingly unclear (even with the Google).

Those look fairly easy to do and shouldn't cost much to get the supplies. I'm always working on something. No pics in my phone to share. If you have questions about something don't hesitate to ask.

Those look super easy to me.
Here's the last few I did (not my pics, but the same kit). Each one took months.

These don't look hard at all! They should be quick and easy to complete!!

@keiki_mama: Good tips from @Hoots: masking tape around the edges is helpful.
I always folded the fabric to find the middle and then the middle on the pattern and started from there.

ditto what @Smurfette: said about starting in the middle.
And since we're sharing this was my first big fancy one (not my pic, but same kit, I switched out the blues for greens) that I made. It had so many dang french knots! I started it in college and all my friends teased me for being a nerdy old lady, haha, but now it's hanging in our foyer.

@PurplePumps: wow, that fish one is amazing! Is that counted or stamped? So many colors!
pomegranate / 3809 posts
@Shutterbug: They're all counted. I don't know why, but I like to torture myself and only do counted ones.

Those look super easy. If you have never done it before you will just need to buy
a hoop
the white canvas (you can buy a large one and cut it to size, the PDF should tell you what size you need... most likely you will have to buy a bigger size and cut it down)
needles (just go to the needle section of the hobby store and their will be cross stitching needles)
thread (the PDF should tell the color code which is easy to find on the thread)
I think after you get supplies it will take you less than a few hours (2 maybe) to make the first one (maybe half a day if you were going slow and getting interrupted a lot), the 2nd one though would take you like an hour max.
Good luck! Cross stitch can get pretty addicting though.
After you are done... depending on what you want to do
Have it like a picture... you need a picture frame and normally I just tape the edges around the cardboard that comes with the frame.
You can also make into a pillow or the likes but that would require some sewing.
Have fun!

My mom used to make cross stitch sweatshirts for us kids, where she pinned the backing canvas to a sweatshirt, stitched right through it, then pulled apart the backing canvas thread by thread so that just the design on the sweatshirt was left. I do! We had some friends over to watch football a few weeks ago and 3 of us were cross stitching while we watched. The guys made lots of fun of us. But those look very, very easy, so you shouldn't have any trouble at all.
And since we're sharing, here's my most recent! It was for my FIL's bday, since he has a farm. And apparently he knows what sorts of tractors those are and has one of them, so it worked out nicely. (Please excuse the poor picture quality.)

@Smurfette: @Shutterbug: Yeah, I have personal issues with the middle start. I don't know why I hate it so much. I think this Cinderella cross stitch was the 1st one that I didn't use the middle start. I've done several birth announcements since and all of them have been more centered because I started ticking off the stitches on the masking tape. I can't remember why I started doing that, but I have a feeling it had something to do with a miscount that I couldn't fix and had to tear out. I really really despise doing that.
grapefruit / 4703 posts
@Hoots: ugggh the miscounting is the WORST. I had to tear out the whole alligator (above) and when I realized I nearly cried, haha.

@keiki_mama: I haven't cross stitched since I was a kid, but your patterns made me lol! Love them!
