My 9 month old son goes in for surgery on his undescended testicle next week. If you have a lo that has gone through this surgery could you share your experience?
Thanks in advance !

Hi. I'm really sorry, I don't have any experience of this at all but I hope everything goes well for him. Sending lots of loves.

My nephew had this done....I don't have a ton of details but know that they had to attach his testicle to a button type thing to keep it from ascending again. It was later removed or dissolved and now he doesn't have any issues. He was a little out of it that day and couldn't "straddle" sit on anything for a while but other than that he recovered well.
I'm so sorry you all have to go through this. Hopefully its just a quick in and out and he'll never have to worry about it again!

@Cherrybee: thanks I appreciate that.
@petunia354: I know it's not very common but I figured I'd get some advice on here,:( thanks for the response though. I don't even know what to think right now. Not happy about this at all. My poor little boy

No advice, but good luck. If you have any questions about surgery in general I may be able to help, we've been through several.

@jh524: I'm sorry I don't have any advice but my 18mo has the same issue and we're waiting to see the Urologist for it. I would love to hear more from you after it's through.
I hope your son's surgery goes well and that he recovers quickly! Hugs from a fellow mama going through the same thing!

@jetsettermomma: thank you! I will let you know how it goes. I'm sick over it but it has to be done. I have been told to do it now and not wait. What made you wait until now? His surgery is Thursday morning and it's out patient so we'll take him home the same day.

@As Time Goes By: thank you !!!
@beaker: I'm really concerned about the anesthesia and how to take care of him after the surgery.

No personal experience, but DH is a urology resident and rotated through pediatric urology for 3 months last year. This was pretty well the most common operation they did - I just asked him and he said that its not a complicated procedure and it always has excellent outcomes. He will be in good hands and will do great.

@Ocean girl: I really appreciate that. Luckily, the testicle is palpable so that's good. He's the 2nd patient of the day ( youngest go first). Thank you for the encouragement

@jh524: Our ped asked us before if his scrotum ever looked full and I told her yes but during his most recent well visit (18m), when she was checking him and asked again, I pointed out that it always looked that way (like it was full) and she said that it was actually not
I feel terrible thinking we could've addressed it sooner! I am on pins and needles waiting for the urologist to set up an appointment
our ped didn't seem alarmed though so I hope everything will be ok!
Good luck and will be thinking of you and your little one!

@jh524: oh no, good luck this week! I will be thinking of you and your LO. Everything will be fine.

@jetsettermomma:
that's exactly why we're getting it done sooner than later. I think he may get over it quicker if he's not walking. He's crawling and very mobile already so I don't know how he's gonna do if I need him to take it easy for a bit. Thank you and I'll update...
@swedishfish: I know it will be fine. But it's my baby!!! It may be harder on me than it is on him. I hope that he does well. Thank you

@jh524: anesthesia (in my experience) makes them grumpy for a while afterwards. Even though you would think, oh, he was just sleeping, my DS has always been BEAT afterwards and sleeps way more than normal.
I can't help with taking care after that specific surgery
my DS has had several abdominal surgeries and you always feel awful to change their diaper since it hurts to lift their legs. Is it an outpatient procedure? If so I would think he's not going to be in too, too much pain.

@beaker: yes it's outpatient and they'll give me tylenol with codeine for pain relief. Well we are also getting his belly button fixed while he is "out" because it's really ugly, like really ugly. I'm sure he's gonna be in pain for a few days but hoping he forgets it quickly.

@jh524: babies are so resilient. He'll be over it before you will, and will completely forget about it soon

@jh524: How did your sons surgery go? We are just starting the referral process for the same issue.
