We don't celebrate, religious views (non-denominational). DS does dress up all. the. time. though... we just get him costumes he wants throughout the year and him and DH play superheros or whatever else DS wants.

I've decided I want to throw a costume party in June just because! lol

I never did, halloween is not a big thing here. We know about it (only because of TV shows :P) but if you go trick or treating... about 85% of the people's doors you knock on will look at you like you're insane.

So, I don't really get the appeal I don't buy candy, and unplug the door bell on halloween. What a grouch I am!

Meh. I don't really care about Halloween. I liked going trick or treating I guess, although my costumes were always totally lame. Also I don't really care for candy, so that part of the appeal is lost on me.

So its not a religious thing, I just find it all kind of annoying. I might change my mind when I have kids though.

We don't do much of anything. We're going to a costume party this weekend, but we've never handed out candy. We tried one year and maybe 3 kids knocked on our door. Maybe when LO is here and older, we'll do more. Right now, we're just apathetic about it.

We don't, I'm not a fan. I hate bringing it up (in fact, I don't bring it up), because everyone thinks I'm completely unfun but I don't like halloween. It celebrates the occult and makes it cute for children, which is almost worse for me. My kids are still so little that they don't know, so we'll see how it goes when they hit school.

And we don't get trick or treaters, we live out of town.

Oh, and I did do halloween as a kid, I got uncomfortable with it as a teenager and DH grew up in a culture that didn't do much about Halloween.

I am ambivalent about whether or not I actually participate in Halloween but I LOVE seeing kids dressed up in costumes! Once kids get beyond about the age of 10, I find it annoying, but little kids dressed up in costume is the cutest darn thing.

That being said, Halloween isn't big in Australia so we won't be doing anything for it for the foreseeable future. DH has never celebrated Halloween being a Brit/Aussie, so he doesn't get the holiday and would rather we not celebrate it ever.

We don't like Halloween so we don't participate. Frankly, I think the whole thing is a little weird.

My religion is anti halloween (I'm Jewish) but we still celebrate. I know when lo ties to preschool we're planning on sending her to temple preschool and they'll have nothing to do with it there. Probably wont do valentines day either. Ill still do it in my house though.

Me! I went trick or treating when I was younger and Mom always decorated the house. I just decorate for fall. I think once I have a house and more storage, I might decorate for Halloween too. We don't get trick or treaters in our condo, so it just feels like any other night to me. Besides the fact that it is one of the worse nights for traffic.

I'm not a huge fan of adults celebrating. I think sexy costumes are lame. But for kids it's a wonderful fun night

@Mrs. Jacks: I agree, sexy costumes are the worst!! I've been trying to find a costume to go with DD's and they are all so skimpy

We grew up celebrating halloween every year, costumes, candy, pumpkins and lots of fun. Maybe I'm niave, but I've never read anything into it beyond cute kids in cute costumes meeting their neighbours and having a good time.

DH and I don't really celebrate it either. As children, I think we both dressed up, though. We just don't like scary stuff and like PP said, we don't enjoy the dark aspect of the holiday.

We just moved to a new neighborhood, so I'm honestly not sure if we will have any trick-or-treaters. We may get some candy just in case, but we may find something better to do that night.

@Artbee: me too! I grew up loving the holiday when I was little, even though I didn't get to really wear costumes to school, so we just trick-or-treated. our LOs will get to dress up for preschool for Purim though

@Mrs. Superhero: Last year was the first year DS really noticed & had some qualms about not taking part in it, he was 7. It was primarily because of our reasoning and having alot of his friends from church still participating. He didn't understand why it was okay for them but not us..... definitely made for a hard season. We just re-affirmed why we felt the way we did, stayed understanding to his frustration, shared some times that we had gone through the same thing (as kids & as an adult), and this year he hasn't had any issues with seeing the decor and knowing it's coming up. Just thought we'd share our experience with an older munchkin. =)

I don't really celebrate as an adult because I don't want to spend money on a costume. Pure laziness and cheapness, but I'm excited for LO to dress up. We didn't start celebrating Halloween until I was about 8 or 9, my mom left the Jehovah Witnesses and went to holidays full force!

One of my favorite holidays, and it is kind of a big deal where we live. I really look forward to taking LO out to trick or treat when she is old enough!

Nah, I love Halloween! Favoritte holiday after Christmas! I'm pretty bummed that my neighborhood (for the most part) doesn't seem to get into it; I was thrilled that I had a house to decorate this year and now it sticks out lol. I have no problem with people who are not interested/against Halloween, I just feel like the odd person out now! I hope I at least get trick-or-treaters!!

I think it's a fun holiday for kids to dress up and i'm pro trick or treating...but I think it's weird how gung-ho some adults get into it. I'm also anti-sexy costumes. Halloween is probably my least favorite holiday...but that's just b/c I find it annoying.
