Definitely. Our families are constantly trying to shove us out of the house so they can watch DD. I have absolutely no problem having them over, and being a ghost in the background until needed, but I am not entirely comfortable leaving her alone for multiple hours at a time. I've shared some of my separation anxiety with HB before, but in reality, she's only ten weeks, and I would like to be around her as much as I possibly can (within reason, of course).

Also, our families occasionally poke fun at some of our attachment parenting techniques, so I know they would probably stray from what we've been doing at home, if left to their own devices. I'm also exposing DD to baby sign language by prompting two signs, and I *know* that no one else would go for that.

In other words, I am insane, and hover like a 'copter. Oh well; I truly appreciate the offers to help, and love our families to death. I will take them up on it, but in the future.

Yes. Luckily for me, we live very far from both of our parents, but we just visited my inlaws last week, so it is still fresh in my mind. My MIL insisted on kicking us out as often as possible so that she could watch DS. After a few days I was getting really frustrated because I felt like I wasn't seeing him much at all. Every time we wanted to go somewhere and take DS with us, she would jump in and say he could stay with her. I felt that it was really invasive and also started to feel resentful. Luckily it's all over until our next visit in a few months.

Hah, nope. My mom keeps insisting she can babysit....but she lives 2 hours away. Nobody else really offers.

My mom came over last night to take LO for a couple of hours ...I hesitated at first because she's only 10 days but it turned out to be an amaazzziingg few hours alone with DH to veg out. It convinced me to take them up on their offer to watch her this weekend so we can have a date night..I'm really looking forward to it!

I wish!! We have to beg.

FIL likes to take LO over night once a week, which I appreciate but it's so much work for me. I know that he wants to get used to watching LO so that we have some help once LO2 arrives. I just hate spending a whole day prepping food just for him to leave for 24 hours. No one wants to take on the challenge of cooking for him since he has so many allergies. Oye.

Yes, my MIL always is trying to get us to do date night and have them keep LO overnight. I love having a few hours but only like to use overnights when I think it is necessary!

@Sapphiresun: omg he tried to feed your two week.old cake and threatened to while you weren't looking?? I would fliiiiip!! Def good call not to leave LO unattended with them!

my MIL did up her spare room as a nursery for "if we wanted to get away for a weekend". I feel bad because I know she loves LO but nooooooooo wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy is she sleeping over! Once she suggested we put LO inside on an adult bed, alone, so we could enjoy the outdoor BBQ. it wasn't malicious or anything but a three week old unattended, inside where we can't hear her on a daybed?? Red flags and sirens for me that she makes bad judgment calls. I'm too much of a copter mom anyway.

My in-laws have tried this on several occassions, and so far I've used breastfeeding as an excuse. But out of everyone I can think of that could watch LO they are at the bottom of the list espically after seeing how they are with their 2 year old grandson - he literally has no boundaries when he's with them and no routine so if they were ever to babysit it would be like 2 hours max. So far only my mum has babysat and thats only when I've asked, she's never asked us to take LO.

I'm not sure I would trust my ILs, but they aren't around so it's not really an issue.

My ILs offer all. the. time to wafch both my kids. When offering and politely decling didn't work, the turned to guilting us whenever their over - telling hubs and I how at this age, the grandparents watched hubs and his sister all. the. time.

I understand that they were comfortable doing this with their kids but hubs was like 3 when his sister was born. My kids are both under two. Since I'm a SAHM, I understand their little quirks better than anyone and understand my son's abbreviated sign language best. I have a schedule, a routine, and for the most part I like spending time with my kids. I appreciate the offers but I always spend the entire time worried about my kids when I'm gone.

I'm the same way if my parents want to watch although I'm more comfortable with them doing it just because they're so relaxed. My FIL tends to get DS riled up and MIL tends to miss DD's tired signs. My ILs argue if they watched them more it would be easier for everyone but I'm not comfortable leaving them both just because they're so little. DS is 20 months and DD is nearly 7 months

DH's aunt is always saying she wants to babysit and that we need to go out alone so we don't regret not taking time for ourselves. Honestly, with breastfeeding and all the things he needs being so little sometimes it is more trouble than it is worth. But we do like to get out sometimes and both times I have asked her to babysit she couldn't even do it! Now it seems she wants us to make up excuses to go out so she can babysit, but I am just a little annoyed and over it at this point.
