It only bothers me a little when close family members (LO's aunt and uncle) and LO's regular teachers can't get it right. I've corrected them several times but I'm not going to bother anymore!

It's literally impossible to pronounce his name incorrectly! Some friends and family like playing around pronouncing it in the French or Spanish way though.

I picked names that just have one pronunciation since I've had to deal with so many variations of Andrea. It's not a huge deal, but just one less thing to worry about.

I was more concerned about name spelling since my name is creatively spelled. For certain I didn't think anyone would get it wrong, but a friend added an "e" on the end. NBD I just let her know not to include an e. I totally forgot that his name is spelled a bit differently in different languages and there may be some confusion down the road because of that. Ex: I have met a "George" that spells his name "Jorge." He pronounces it the English way, but spells it the Spanish way.
@Andrea: oh yeah, your name can be tough. I grew up with many Ann-dree-ah and had the hardest time with a girl who pronounces it Awn-dray-ah.

No. DD has a "multi-lingual" name but we don't pronounce it the English way. So pretty much nobody here ever pronounces it right, at least at first. Of course, everyone in DH's native country, where most of his family is, pronounces it perfectly...so at least that's something.

So far, no, but a lot of people who've said it wrong have only seen her name in writing. If they're still getting it wrong in a year or two, it will probably bug me.
I thought we'd picked a name that is unusual, but would be familiar to most people. (I've never met one IRL, but there are a few well-known fictional characters with the name.) For that reason, the mispronunciations surprise me, but they don't bother me (yet ).

It's annoying when I clearly said it one way and people say it wrong anyway. There are two pronunciations, and since we're in the South some people seem to really want to go with the more redneck sounding pronunciation. But so far everyone we're close to gets it right (though it took FIL a few visits before he got it down).

Not when it's someone new, but multiple members of my husband's family mispronounce it regularly. That's annoying.

We have a hard last name so we're very intentional about an easy to pronounce first name. Haven't had any mispronunciations.

It annoys me a little when people mispronounce my youngest's nickname. No one mispronounces either girl's full name, but both have been misspelled: my eldest's without the E at the end, and my youngest's with the boy's version of her name-- those things bug me just a little.

It does if I have already said her name or corrected them and they still say it wrong. Ie: she took dance and the teacher said it wrong, DD corrected her and the teacher said I know that is your name...and still said it wrong. It clearly bothered DD as she still mentions it two months after class ended (she is only 3.t!). I don't think either of my DS has a name that would be pronounced wrong- at least not here.

Both of my LOs have names that can be pronounced 2 ways. I always correct, but it doesn't bother me unless it is someone who I feel should know how to pronounce the name by now. At our former daycare, one of the teachers ALWAYS pronounced DS's name the wrong way even though I specifically told them and obviously addressed him by the correct pronunciation in front of her daily.

It's hard to mispronounce her name if you see it spelled out (rhymes with Sarah, pretty easy). But sometimes people think it's. A different name and either say Clare or Cara. If I didn't enunciate when I told them that's on me and I correct them, but sometimes people just mix it up.
The baby's name is impossible to mispronounce unless you don't speak English I think.

If they mess his name up, well, that'd be shocking! Lol his name is super classic. People mispronounce my name all the time and I answer to anything. I'm so used to it lol

It annoys me when it's our own family. It is a family name on DHs dads side. My MIL told everyone it was pronounced the wrong way!!!! So now every. Single. Time. We see family that we only se once a year they all say it wrong because I think it's stuck in their head. Drives me absolutely insane. DH doesn't care as much. When we FaceTimed his aunt when my son was born she asked "will you pronounce it "X" or "y" and DH says "I think "X"..."
And I'm yelling "we are definitely pronouncing it like "X"!!!!!" Ugh. His grandma spent a weekend with us and said it wrong every time no matter how many times she was corrected.
If anyone is super curious about the name and why people say it wrong I can get more specific on your wall! Lol

No one really mispronounces my son's name, but we have this one cousin who constantly misspells his nickname (Tobi instead of Toby). That really irritates me.

@Mrs. Champagne: I'm curious!
A friend of mine named her son Jaxon...clearly written on the baby shower invite. At her shower the cake and keepsake guest photo book both had his name spelled JaxSon. She didn't change his name, one of the hostesses just wasn't paying attention.

We gave our kids easy to pronounce and spell names, but it drives me crazy when one particular family member calls my son Blakey or Blaker. No! It is just Blake! It is a nice short name, no need to lengthen it!

They get more mistaken for their last name as their first. DS2 sometimes gets called Olivia.

His name is pretty hard to misprounce, but we have had a lot of people say West instead of Wes (his nickname). It doesn't bother me that much since the 't' is in his name, sometimes if it's family I might correct them but normally I just ignore it.
nectarine / 2115 posts
Our daughter is Madeleine, pronounced Mad-a-lenn. I've had a few people say mad-a-line, including close family members and I just roll my eyes. It would probably bug me more if we used her full name more often, but we usually call her Maddie.
DS is going to be Oliver, so I don't foresee any pronunciation issues!

@Mrs. Champagne: Same with it driving me insane and DH couldn't care less!
His nickname is super straightforward. I would be flat out stumped if someone mispronounced it. His legal name, on the other name, could be pronounced two different ways. He was baptized with the wrong pronunciation

My mom has straight up called T Taylor numerous times. It isn't even his name. I finally got that ironed out kind of recently....

It's impossible to mispronounce it when you read it, but DH grandma said she was just going to call him by his middle name because she would never get his first name right. :\
I wasn't happy about that and luckily it didn't last. His name isn't even hard to remember or spell. It's a common last name.

There's only one person I can think of who has mispronouced lo's name, but she is from New Zealand and it's an accent thing so it doesn't bother me. People misspell her name and that annoys me more (her name ends in -ie, but people sometimes write -ee) but I haven't said anything, although when it's my aunt or someone like that I want to just be like "really???" especially if it's on fb and I just used the correct spelling in the post they're responding to
