First of all, I am a teacher and I love a snow day as much as the next person. This morning I woke up to about 50 posts from my teacher friends - "yay! no school!" "back to bed!" "no work for me!" "love paid days off!" etc etc etc.

I think at least part of the motivation in writing these are to make other people jealous... but all it does it make people like my husband (who have to make it to work regardless of weather conditions) frustrated that we get snow days at all.

Also I find it looks bad for our profession as a whole, that we celebrate en masse not having to go to work and teach. As much as I love snow days, I love what I do even more and would never want anyone to think that I disliked going to work (especially in teaching where public perception is so important).

Our union actually came out at the start of the year and told people not to make these type of posts on FB but apparently a lot of people missed the message, lol.

I don't really mind it when it's once in a while (my teacher friends in the south never get a snow day so when they do I get their excitement!) but when you live where I do in Canada and we get 7-10 a winter it gets old after a while.

Does it bug you? Or am I just anal?
