Not at all!

It doesn't bother me at all. I expect to bring a gift to any party that I'm invited to.

It doesn't bug me at all, but since I have a fairly close-knit group of mom friends who babies are all around the same age it gets expensive.

We had 7 first birthday parties this year and gifts for all those add up fast. Plus whenever it's one of the mom birthdays, we tend to have a mommy happy hour and I get a "little" gift that is somehow getting more expensive (again, my own fault). The first little gift I gave to a mom was a $10 gift cert to a local coffee place on her block and a card...the last one I gave was a $35 bottle of champagne.

I probably need to cut back in this area, but it's hard because I'm definitely not going to show up empty handed.

Nope. I think its expected from a kids party. No gifts is definitely the exception and not the rule.

Plus, its fun to shop for little ones.

I love picking out gifts and my kids do, too. It's good for them to learn how to pick something out for someone else!

It doesn't bother me at all. I enjoy giving gifts, it's just when the parents specifically say no gifts that I heed their instructions.

Doesn't bother me, plus I feel like with little kids, at least, it's pretty easy to get an inexpensive gift that doesn't scream cheap. As they get older I'm sure it gets more and more expensive though (I've only been to 1 year old parties or family parties so far).

No, I love picking out kids' presents! Much easier than adult gifts IMO.

@plantains: true. $25 goes far with little ones. They get so many gifts that a less expensive gift doesn't induce guilt on my part.

It does not bug me at all, I enjoy giving gifts and shopping, so an excuse to do so is usually welcome.

I hate shopping, especially for others. Buying gifts for kids is no fun for me because I usually put too much thought into it and worry about things like whether the child needs it, has it already, will be gifted something similar. It would be so much easier if the parents would register, although I realize that might be over the top for a birthday party!

@Leah: You'd like me then. I have an Amazon wish list for Xander that I pass out to people whenever they ask what Xander wants for Christmas/his birthday.

Nope doesn't bug me. But in general school parties tend to request no gifts because the kids get invited to so many of them. I always bring a book or something like that with me anyway, but no gifts does make it a little easier.

With my close friends, they usually have gift parties and I like picking out the perfect gift!

I haven't encountered this yet since my son is only seven months old. But I generally don't like dealing with gratuitous gifts. I like getting gifts when I can think of the perfect thing, but not when it's just another errand to run. I just don't have much time to run errands so it stresses me out a lot, especially since I don't really like shopping and generally try to avoid it.

Once my son is older, I will probably keep a stash of gifts that I order from Amazon so I can just pull one out when necessary instead of scrambling on a per party basis.

Nope, I expect it! I typically ask advice from my friends with kids about what to buy. I like buying gifts.

I generally like shopping for gifts and now that LO understands birthdays, I like that she has meaningful opportunities to shop for toys/books not for herself and practice giving.
