None of the poll options apply to me, but, politics affects my job significantly - we are already having strategy discussions about how to prepare for the upcoming administration change. Different administrations will fund priorities differently, which of course has major impacts.

As far as the actual politics of my bosses and coworkers, we all for the most part agree with each other, which is a function of living in a very politically homogeneous place.

That's so odd, and possibly illegal! But I'm pretty sure he can't actually know who you support unless you tell him, and has no right to pry!

I've never discussed politics at work, and lately I wouldn't even want to - I'm scared I'll end up losing all respect for someone I have to work with every day. But my work is influenced by politics in the sense that it's heavily driven by government regulations.

According to the article I could be fired. I try not to talk about politics at work because fair or not knowing how people lean politically changes your view of them.

Talking about the election from an entertainment standpoint seems to be an icebreaker these days.

Well, I'm currently waiting on the results of a special election / proposition to see whether or not I get my first >1% raise in 6 years.... so yes, politics affects my job, but not in the ways you described (I'm a teacher, and education funding was placed on a special ballot this year.)

I've been fussed at for who I voted for in the last election (my boss straight up asked, I voted libertarian). He was super annoyed but I don't think it affected my job or standing at the company.

We've definitely had company meetings where we were told to vote republican. I am actually worried about this upcoming election since pretty much all my coworkers are republican die-hards and voting for Clinton would be base treachery. I'm not a fan of her either but am definitely in the #nevertrump camp and that will probably mean voting for her.

My job has a lot to do with government agencies and policies so when the country changes in terms of what group holds power then that strongly affects how I do my job everyday.

I don't think so. I talk very a little about it- with people I'm friendly with I'll have brief high level conversations and might seem to lean one way but I'm not die hard or pushy so I probably wouldn't find myself in an argument.

My company and most executives are European so they won't vote and I'm not aware if they have strong opinions! I know the one who hired me was very conservative but he left the company and I only knew that because I knew someone who knew him outside of work.

I have no idea who my boss supports and I don't mention who I support. Although, if I hear a coworker (like water cooler talk) mention supporting someone that I support, I might say that I agree. If a coworker talks about a party or candidate that I don't support, I will say something like 'oh, ok' or not say anything to continue the discussion.

As for political party in my field, I was very surprised that we had a full company meeting and one of the senior speakers brought up all 3 candidates (Hillary, Bernie and Trump) in a powerpoint presentation. The presentation itself was maybe critical on both Hillary and Bernie, which made me wonder if the speaker was a Republican. But then the Q&A at the end, a fellow coworker asked him which candidate would be best for our company. He straight out said Trump would be bad because of the unknown. At least half the room laughed and probably offended the Trump supporters in the room. I was very surprised that he said that. I do wonder if HR said something to him afterwards.

In general and in my field (Pharmaceuticals), my fellow colleagues can support either side. With all the changes over the years in healthcare, we just adapt. It's no different from 10 years ago. There are always healthcare changes or even other changes like FDA restrictions or rules and we just work with it.

I would say politics affects my job industry as a whole but I would never be fired or retaliated against because of my views. That just seems so wrong and unprofessional to me. If my boss would say something to me like that, I would march right up to HR. Also, I would have to show job incompetents to be fired. My boss would have to look at other part of my job to fire me. I could see if you worked for the political campaign of Trump and didn't like him, you could be fired.

I just read the article, I guess I could be laid off but it blamed for a bigger reason like the economy. Which would be hard because my company is doing very well.

I didn't vote in the poll. My organization is affected by politics because we receive funding from all levels of government. Top executives can be affected because many times the incoming Mayor will replace high level people.

We talk politics a lot but not necessarily our personal feelings. It has come up and I know who a few people are voting for but we don't debate or discuss it outside of it's relevancy to oyr work.

I work for a county agency. We mostly don't discuss politics at my work. Although my team has discussed it in the sense of "what is even happening this election?" Most people in my field in general lean progressive, as do I.

@OldpuebloJenn: thanks! I know it's an imperfect prop, but I don't believe the state would do anything else, so I'm hoping it passes.

Currently no since I'm self-employed and would just be preaching to the choir.

I used to work for a foreign government though, and I was always interested in hearing about their politics. Only my boss talked openly about it and everyone else kind of stayed quiet (not sure everyone supported the party in power at the time). Conversely, the foreigners in my office always wanted to hear my take on US politics (Obama was elected the first time when I was working there) and we would have open discussions about US politics.

In the past, it was possible in the company I work for your boss to ask you to support certain political candidates via donations in your personal name. Now, that's prohibited via the rules of our parent company.

So, I'm answering the question in the Title, not the thread. Politics in general do NOT come up at work. My job IS affected by politics, though. It's affected by the amount of money politicians spend on advertising during election years. This year is faaaantastic.
