i just had my orientation with LO's daycare, and the director said it's part of their safe sleep policy only to put babies in the crib when they're already asleep. as in, none of this "drowsy but awake" business.
is this typical? what does your daycare do?

our daycare rocks or pats the kids while they're in their pack n plays. some of the kids that can put themselves to sleep do and go in awake. others need a little rocking, but they go to sleep easily.

My daycare puts babies in their crib usually when they are asleep. But mostly they use swings to get the babies to fall asleep. I have only once seen my baby in her crib there, but this is because I told them she prefers the swing

They rock her to sleep, just like we do at home. They do take her out of her crib as soon as she wakes up, too. I think that leads to her shorter naps (she could probably put herself back to sleep) but it works for them so I don't question it.

They rock her to sleep and then put her in her crib. As her teacher says "M is a "trick" baby... you need to know all her tricks to get her to sleep!"

They usually rock her to sleep, even though we put her to sleep drowsy at home most the time.

@mediagirl: i was kind of bummed when i heard the policy because we've been working so hard to try and get him to self-soothe back to sleep after the 45-minute nap, but like you, i'm not going to question it.

@LuLu Mom: did you find that the daycare practice of rocking her to sleep interfered with her ability to put herself to sleep when you put her to bed at home?

@edelweiss: Nope not at all! otherwise I would ask them to stop, but my LO is a sleeper, so in reality when she's ready she goes down. She's the one that will be laughing one second and you look down and she's all of a sudden out.
