Prior to the "incident" that happened when LO was born (October), at Christmas when we visit (flight/half country away) I always took home a present and card from them for February/my Birthday each year.
MIL says everything is ok between us (to DH).....yet I didn't even hear from them this year....hmmm.
I'm totally not bothered, as it makes it less awkward (to feel I have to say something back) but just wondering if your ILs wish you a Happy Birthday?

Yes. My IL's have a dinner for everyones birthday including me and DH's sisters husband.

My inlaws always email and send me generous birthday gifts.
One year I got a $200 gift card to Omaha Steaks (lol. so random).
This year I got gift certs to Starbucks, Amazon, TRU.

My inlaws always call and we'll have a family dinner or something. They might gift me with a scarf or something.

@Beebug: this year, no. In years past, yes. We also had an "incident" during a maternity leave visit. I used to be in charge of gifts, etc, but after the incident, it's up to my husband to remember gifts for his family.

My FIL always wishs me Happy Birthday. We don't really exchange gifts except for Christmas.

They always seem to forget till the last minute. DH and mine are 6 days apart, you would think they could remember that. They came up the weekend of my shower, which was 4 days before DH's bday. They gave him a card and nice $200 gift card. I said something later about our bday just in conversation, then we went to dinner they said they were treating our both our bdays. The next weekend, I got a card and package in the mail. It was a bottle of lotion and body wash. Hurts my feelings that they went all out for his and I get something way smaller each year. oh well.

Yes they do. We usually go out to dinner with them, I get a card, cake, and 25 bucks. This year it was a txt, card & money. They are in the process of selling their home and building a new one so I didn't expect as much as previously.

@Beebug: I read your thread last night. Some parts of it I could have written myself in a very similar situation. My DH has the same outcast fear with the "incident" as well. Unfortunately, I didn't feel that my DH stood up for myself and his family (LO & I), but his family of origin out of fear. We're in counseling as a direct result of what happened. We're also working on other issues as well. There's still a lot of resentment and pain over what happened. We still have to visit them.

Yes, my MIL usually buys me a present and if I'm around, she either makes or buys me a cake. She always texts me on my birthday too. And we'll usually go out to eat or she'll make something.

Nope..I don't think they even know my birthday! They are witnesses so they don't do birthdays anyway.

@cascademom: Sorry to hear you are dealing with something similar. It has been the worst experience and I don't think I have been through anything more awful. The stress on the relationship on what is already a trying time with a new baby was unreal. I hope you and your DH continue to work through it. DH and I have, but I think there is definitely still some sore spots between us, but we know we seem to go in circles when coming back to discuss it. I have sought e-counselling for my feelings and anger and resentment toward my MIL, just because I think how I was feeling was really unhealthy for me. Wouldn't wish it on anyone, hope things get better for you.

Nope, I don't know if they know my birthday. They don't really talk to me. My parents call DH and give him a small gift each year, though.
I used to get a red envelope on Lunar New Year, though.

@Beebug: I completely agree about it being the worst thing that we've gone through in our marriage. We still feel tinges on it when we can't communicate as well as we could. Counseling has helped both of us to say things that would otherwise not be taken into account by each other. I never pictured that 6 months after having a baby that we would be in counseling. I'm just hoping that we get through it and grow. It's one of those valleys in a relationship, just have to work through it.

Last year was the first time that anyone other than my MIL acknowledged it. I was shocked since they pretty much ignore us or should I say me.

Nope, I don't think my ILs know when my birthday is, even after 7 years of being together! Occasionally SIL & BIL will wish my a belated Happy Birthday, but no cards/gifts/dinners.
My parents usually like to take us out for DH's birthday and give him a card and some cash.

Yes, they take us to dinner and buy me a cake and presents. We disagree over some, small things about child rearing, but overall I'm really lucky.

nope...my MIL doesn't do anything for my birthday. she even forgets her own son's birthday sometimes. i gave up after the first few years together.
