I want to make sure I don't gender stereotype DS so I've tried to expose him to gender neutral toys or both typical "boy" AND "girl" toys. We'd never given him cars but a few months ago he became obsessed with them. There's an older boy at daycare and I assume that's how DS became interested in cars. Now they are his favorite toy by far. Is your DS in love with cars?

yep! we have never bought ONE toy car or truck for him, but he has around 20 of various sizes already haha... hand me downs, gifts, etc!
up to a certain age he didn't seem to care one way or another, but the past few months (he's almost 26 months) they are ALL he plays with!
it's pretty cute!

DD was just walking around the yard with a basket full of cars. She started liking them from daycare as well.

We went to a friend's house with a boy about a year older and it was all over. He loooves cars and trucks now. We have a ton but only bought 2 for the beach. I have no idea how we accumulated so mant.

I wanted to vote "not yet" because I'm sure it could happen in the future! His current obsessions are books, crayons, and balls!

I know way too much about construction vehicles, and DS is only 20 months old. He always finds the construction books, uses a toy garbage truck as his security object, and stops dead in his tracks whenever a truck goes by.
The day where there were 3 street sweepers on our block was the happiest day in our household. -

He definitely likes cars but I wouldn't say he LOVES them yet.

My son is waaaaaay more into anything with wheels than DD was.

Xander LOVES cars. I think the first real "sounds" he made were car sounds!

He loves them, if it has wheels he will likely dig it.

Trucks are our life! For entertainment we will go on a walk to look for trucks. He has car pajamas and every type of car toy. I have an adorable video of hi at tire Rama pointing out every truck that drove past. Every morning when DH leaves for work, he says "dada work. Big truck." (He drives a suburban.)
We had NOTHING to do with this obsession. He had one car toy and one book (Red Truck - it's great; we love it!) and it mushroomed from there. Now truck stuff is all anyone gets him!

He has a car in hand all minutes of the day and night- and I mean EVERY SINGLE MINUTE. It hit hardcore around 2.5 years old. Before that he could take 'em or leave 'em. Can't complain, Matchbox cars are cheap!
As far as gender goes and having two boys- he also has a kitchen, stuffed animals, and cleaning toys. If I had a girl, I would give her a variety of stuff too.

Yes, but he really just loves pushing things with wheels. He's also obsessed with doll strollers.

DD loves them! We live downtown so she knows ALL of the sounds: ambulance, fire truck, dump truck, garbage truck, motorcycle, load/highway truck... it's noisy

We own several cars, trucks, buses. We just got her the Melissa and Doug car carrier.

My son loves cars (not necessarily more than other things like superheroes!) but he went through a huge motorcycle phase. Like, total obsession. My daughter, who is younger, likes cars and motorcycles but not as much as my son. She also prefers superheroes

So, I don't *push* any type of toy onto him. I pretty much let him have whichever ones he likes.
He's only 12.5 months so he hasn't really shown much preference yet.
However, he noticed wheels VERY early and LOVES staring at wheels a lot. He will take any type of wheels. We have a few cars around.
Alternately, he has a tea set which he really likes too. so, there's that.

Before having LO, I was convinced that typical gender toy "preferences" we're completely socialized and that children were often taught to like a car over a doll, for example. I couldn't have been more wrong. Without even the slightest prompting, LO (who is now 21 months old) developed a strong love for cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles, planes, etc. Pretty much anything that moves and has wheels! One of our favorite activity is going to watch the traffic from a bench on the sidewalk. He cannot get enough.

We can't go to the car without him wanting to take his bag of cars. He also loves "Cars" the movie, ha ha. It just happened all of a sudden, one day he could care less and the next he thought cars were awesome.

Yes my ds loves cars even though I make sure to buy him gender neutral toys like a play kitchen and a dollhouse. Cars are still his favorite.

My son is obsessed with trains. Trucks are a close second though.

Obsessed with trucks and especially construction vehicles. Has been this way since about 10/11 months or so.

So so obsessed. My brothers gave him their old childhood matchbox cars last fall and it's been love ever since. He can't get enough. I find it interesting that he's around construction equipment every day and regularly gets to ride them, but isn't nearly as obsessed as he is with cars.

Yes! A is obsessed with cars even though I tried to make sure I wasn't purposely encouraging it. He points at every truck we see and repeats "truck! truck!" Until you also acknowledge the truck. And he loves to push cars and trucks around the house. So I have fully embraced his love of trucks!

It was weird, we gave LO gender neutral things for a long time. One day he started making his blocks into cars and trains and making the noise. We were surprised! Then we starting buying them and he LOVED them. I think it's definitely a boy thing... it's like embedded in their blood or something.
I mean I don't know, that's just what happened to us.

Yes! Cars, trains, trucks...it's crazy to me too. Both boys became obsessed before age 1.

My DD loves cars, trucks, construction vehicles and trains. We expose her to all kinds of toys and she gets hand me downs from her boy cousin.
