I usually put M in her bouncy seat in the bathroom with me when I'm blowing my hair dry. When I turn on the hair dryer, she leans back and her eyes go super wide. After a while she gets used to it but I think the loud noise frightens her at first.

When she was really little and super fussy, I'd turn the blowdryer on and she would calm right down. At one point I youtubed blowdryer videos to calm her down for a nap!

@prettylizy: newborns love loud sounds! Vacuums, hair driers, bathroom fans... it's often soothing for them! I had no idea until it was too late for our kids...

E loves the sound of the hairdryer and the vacuum. We play static on the radio to calm him down too.

If she's tired, she will totally fall asleep to the sound of the dryer. Unfortunately, I usually don't dry my hair long enough for that to happen. It's just recently she has started being startled by it.
