Aquaphor! LO just has it on her cheeks now but my DH has it pretty badly. Things that help are fewer baths, not to hot, and slathering in greasy lotion afterwards. And then when it flares up use a steroid cream. If you don't have a prescription use hydrocortisone over the counter is a good place to start. You have to be really careful with steroids on the face but the OTC is super mild.

DD1 has a very mild case. It was worse for a while and I bought CeraVe cream based off HB recos and it's helped a TON! I use it after every bath and triple lather problem spots. When it's bad I apply multiple times a day and use aquaphor too!

@Bao: I don't know if you have Amazon Prime but if you have a S&S shipment coming up it's like half the price than Rite Aid, et al. I know this because my dog ate my tub of Aquaphor!

He gets it during winter dry season. Mostly on his legs and thighs and he scratches the crap out of it like others said above we've done hydrocortisone, aquaphor, oatmeal based washes and lotion as needed.

My 9 month old recently had it and was getting worse. A combo of all this cleared it up in days - washed all clothes in the tide fragrance free detergent, used California baby eczema wash, and aveeno eczema for lotion. Unfortunately, the cold weather does such a number on their skin! And unfortunately they get the eczema from me.

We tried everything for DS. Cerave, Aquaphor, Cetaphil, Cetaphil compounded with kenalog (helped when it was really severe, like cracking and bleeding), two other rx's I can't remember the name of. It sounds probably crazy, but what helped the most is when I cut out or really limit his dairy intake. If I showed you pics when he is drinking milk and other dairy and the difference when he is not, you wouldn't believe it.

I usually get it cleared up with a prescription cream but you could start with hydrocortisone. Then I use earth mama angel baby bath foam and I lube him up with cerave. I honestly try to avoid aquaphor...

@matador84: Same. Dairy is a HUGE trigger.

My daughter has largely grown out of her eczema. But her dermatologist swore by a lotion we had to get from a compounding pharmacy which was part cold cream, part glycerin and part talc. Cheap as all hell and it really holds in moisture.

My pediatrician recommended aquaphor and it worked great for DD.

Vanicream! Our ped and our allergist recommend it. It's more lotion-y and less Vaseline-y than aquaphor.

Basically for bad patches I put some hydrocortisone on it, and then try to maintain with vanicream after baths/before bed.

@jedeve: @daniellemybelle: I've been told that lotions aren't as hydrating as creams or ointments, so they don't work as well.

We use Aquaphor on Xander and then a hydrocortisone ointment as needed. We have a prescription for Desonide (which is a hydrocortisone ointment) and it works AMAZING.

@Bao: My DS had eczema until he turned 4 and then it magically went away!

Anyway his allergist told us to do a luke warm bath and when he gets out and his skin is still super moist slather him in Vaseline and put on tight fitted cotton pjs! It was the only way to keep it at bay!

Hydrocortisone if its bothering her

My LO has fairly mild eczema, which we’ve managed to get much better under control with fewer baths, and more products (and lots of re-lotioning between baths). E is old enough now to tell me when her skin starts to feel itchy, and I’ll put more lotion on her then. Her eczema is mostly a patch on her back, and sometimes on her legs. I took her to the dermatologist and got an Rx, which we sometimes use, but if I use the below products religiously, I rarely have to use the Rx:

Then, I slather her in CeraVe (we had better luck with CeraVe than with Cetaphil, although Cetaphil lotion works great for me)

She gets patches of it sometimes. We use cetaphil and aquaphor when she needs it. Hers seems mostly heat activated. I also have a mild Rx steroid cream that I use if she needs it.

Yes! DS has it and we have a prescription from his pedi for Hydrocortizone and then we regularly use Hydrolatum (whipped vaseline) every night before bed. That can be bought over the counter.

My LO had pretty bad eczema the first year of her life. She had the bright red cheeks that she kept scratching and they did get infected once.

I always thought it was related to something in my BM and tried several week-long elimination diets while nursing with no improvement. I retrospect I think I should have tried two week long elimination diets so my system and DD's had a chance to work through everything. We weaned 9 months ago and she hasn't had eczema since.

@regberadaisy: I was really surprised because if you just read the list of ingredients, it should be better than Aveeno. I think different products just work better for different people!
