If so, do they get it only at certain times (like sleeping) or at any time during the day? My almost one year old still uses a pacifier and we let her have it whenever, but she only cares to use it when she is tired so it's usually just laying around. She HAS to have it at night though, and if she loses it she will cry forever.
We will probably try and wean her from it in a few months but I'm ok with it for now, it's a lifesaver!

yep, only for nights and naps (and long car rides). He's 28 months--I am DREADING weaning him from it. Will probably try to do it around 3.

Ugh yes, at 17 months. Mostly, she only uses it for sleep (both naps and nighttime) but the last month or so has been bad (really bad flu plus getting molars in) so she has been using it more during the day again. The good thing is that when she is feeling good (not sick or teething), she will give it up easily during the day. Not sure when we plan to wean at night.

Xander is 2 years old - he doesn't have a pacifier. We weaned him from it at 11 months.
Logan is 3 months - he uses his pacifier for naps and bedtime (and car rides if he's particularly fussy). I don't know how often he has it at daycare though.

Nope. He never took to it after we started nursing at 6 weeks. It's both a yay and nay for me. Yay because I never have to worry about weaning him. Nay because a pacifier is a form of self soothing and he doesn't know how to do it. Sigh. He's 19 months and yea...

Lo1 used his for sleeping until he chewed holes in them and gave them up on his own at 18 months. Lo2 is only 2 weeks and isn't interested yet but we will do the same for her. They are off limits during awake time after the first few months.

Unfortunately. She's almost 18 months and still has it. Mostly in the car and while sleeping but sometimes she has it just to have it. I have the stupid thing and wish I had never given it to her but she's getting a new sister in 7 weeks and I'm not into weaning her from it right now. Sleep is good and I don't want to mess that up

No, she never has. I remember being upset that she wouldn't take one in the early days, but now I'm happy to have one less thing to wean her from.

Yes. And it sucks because just since 15-16 months, she's become super attached to it and now she begs for it constantly, even when she's awake...she'll just whine, 'paci! paci!' over and over. Super annoying. I don't let her have it while she's awake, so I constantly have to redirect her.

Never say never is something I should have heeded during pregnancy. I remember thinking omg, my kid will NEVER have a paci past x age. Well, it's past x age (I think 1!) and we're closing in on age 2 and he still uses one, whenever he likes. He has 4 in his crib at night in case he loses one...
I really want to wean him ASAP, but I am so scared.

@Anagram: LO used to be like that--I ended up having Paci live in his crib, and if he wanted it during the day, he could go in his crib and have it. He will sometimes go into his crib for a few minutes to have it, but generally he'd rather be playing. It made it easier to give him a choice rather than, "no paci right now", it became, "you can have paci if you want to go in your crib". Anyway, just an idea!

@lawbee11: same here. LO1 stopped at 6 months and LO2 at 3 months. Sometimes I wish we had had it longer for emergency situations, but neither of them were interested.

I found it super easy to take away the pacifier at age 2.5 - per our dentist we poked a small hole in them which renders them useless - I told DS they were broke and he threw them away.

E has never taken one and now at 5 months I've stopped trying. She's very insistent on the real thing (me!) and would just angrily spit soothers out. I was sad at first not to have it as a calming tool, but I've come to terms.

yes...at home, she only gets it when falling asleep or if she's fussy when we're on the go (stroller, car seat, or carrier). at daycare, they give it to her more often--it helps divert her from eating stuff she shouldn't, like play dough, sand, or whatever other sensory activity they have out. I wish they wouldn't give it to her so much, but I'd rather her get to experience the activity and otherwise she'd be eating all sorts of bad stuff, lol

@hilsy85: oh, that's a good idea! It already lives in her crib, but I never though of letting her have it as long as she stays in the crib. As it is, she'll try to climb her crib from the outside, to get in and get the paci. Augh!

@Anagram: it really helps! And another benefit--when he's having a tantrum and would really want his paci to help calm down, he will ask to go into the crib--it's become like his "Safe space".

Granted I only tried like 3-4 kinds, she doesn't really like them EXCEPT for when we're in the car and she's in the carseat! I def don't mind that we don't have to wean, but I kinda wish she liked it so she can sleep by herself!

LO was a true paci addict, but we just weaned him over Christmas at 27 months by leaving the pacis for Santa. It went 100 times better than I ever could have imagined. He asked for it for a few nights but never cried once. All we had to say was "Remember, you left them for Santa?" and he would say "Yes, and I got big boy presents!" Totally surprised DH and me. Just an idea if anyone is looking for a weaning method.

Our 14 month old uses one for sleep. Her school doesn't want her to have it (unless it's absolutely needed), so we try to limit at home. I have no reservations about using it, but want to help with the school transition.

N is almost 29 months and still has a pacifier at nap time, Bedtime, and long car rides. I would like to stop soon but right now with everything else going on it isn't worth the fight

Our 15, almost 16 month old still uses one. He gets it for bedtime, when he's having a meltdown, and we bring it into restaurants/stores with us. It really helps him self soothe so I'm reluctant to give it up.
I think when he's a little older and can understand more we'll do something about getting rid of them.

We got rid of DS when he was about 21-22 months old. Just cold turkey because he was biting holes in them and I was afraid he was going to bite it in half and choke. After 1 year we only let him have it for sleep.
DD, oh DD. She's 19 months old and is soooo attached to it. She has it all day long. She's got like 6 in her crib at night. She asks for her 'mimi' if she can't find it. The ped is really pushing us to wean. We are saying we're going to take it away when she is 2...it could get bad lol

Yes, for naps and car rides (he's 4.5 months). Previously also at night, but we started sleep training recently and took the paci away for night. Hopefully we can wean him off it before a year!

LO1 is 16 months old and we only let her have her paci at nap time, bedtime, and in the car. The only exception is when she's sick, she can have her paci all day if it gives her a little comfort.

DD is 21 months and we weaned her from her paci at 18 months. I was terrified to do it. But, if it's any encouragement to those of you who will need to someday, it's not that bad! At least it wasn't for her. We snipped the ends off, and a couple nights later she didn't even pick them up anymore. Barely a tear ( I think it was more emotional for us than her 
).

We cut the paci cold turkey with my son a couple of months ago when he was about 27 months. I thought it would be awful but it went really well. He asked for it for a couple of days and then that was it. We just told him no more pacifier. BUT we did notice his tantrums got worse after we took the paci away. He's adjusted now and handles things much better.... although some times I wish he still had it because it worked really well to calm him down.

Yup. She's 2.5, we will try to get rid of it by 3, but the pediatrician isn't concerned. She gets it just for bed and naps but lately has been sneaking it out and I'm too exhausted to fight.

Another mama who's LO never took to it after the 6 week recommended wait period for introduction when BFing. There were sooo many times that I wished he would have for an easy means of comfort when stuck somewhere awkward like say... that time we were stuck at a border crossing with a fussy baby strapped in to carseat, but now am thankful that I never had to wean from it. With sleep training and every other baby to toddler parenting challenge, I am ok with one less.
Considering introducing it earlier for this baby though since I know more about breastfeeding.. haven't decided yet.
