My 6 y/o and 3 y/o did for a little awhile. They LOVED watching playdough videos. There was an article came out recently that there are some extremely disturbing videos on YouTube Kids like how to taste battery acid, or juggle knives and videos with jokes about pedophilia/drug abuse. I can't always monitor what my oldest watches, so I deleted the app on the kids iPads.
I really hope they didn't watch anything horrible

my son does - and I've definitely seen some disturbing shows on there! Thankfully nothing to the extent you described, but I've definitely had to monitor his usage even though it's a "kids" app.
I can't really delete it, because it's the only way he can watch paw patrol and that's his favorite show
He also watches lots of garbage truck videos.

No, I don't trust YouTube either. I will let them watch something on there only if I am with them. I DVR a few shows so I can always put something on that they want to watch if I need shower time.

Wow. DD watches YouTube kids all the time and I've never seen anything weird. I'm going to make sure to keep a close eye on what she's watching.
Anyone have any suggestions on other tv/video apps for tablets instead of YouTube kids?

OMG really? yes she will watch either YouTube Kids or PBS Kids for 15 mins every day while my DH showers. On vacations and whatnot I've watched with her and never seen anything weird.

@Purpledaisy: I downloaded Netflix, with the kids option where they can't watch anything that's not rated G.

Scary. I downloaded YouTube kids because it specially said a "safe app just for kids"
I knew there would probably be some videos I didn't care for but I didn't realize there's actually BAD content!

My 3 yo is obsessed! I've read about inappropriate stuff being on there but from what I've seen, so far, it's nothing compared to the crap he was able to find on just regular YouTube.

Ah, scary! I was actually going to download YouTube Kids today. I do occasionally use the NickJr. app (for Bubble Guppies), Netflix, and PBS Kids so I can get a shower though!

No, because it's YouTube I just don't trust it. @Purpledaisy: I have the PBS Kids App and Netflix on the iPad that she does watch. I have an account for her on Netflix that's for little kids. So the worst she can play is some Barbie dream house or Calliou.
@Mrs. Pen: We're not a Nick Jr Household but looks like you can get paw patrol episodes via the Nick Jr app and on their website.

DH let her on his iPad for a while but I deleted it.
She became obsessed with surprise eggs and Disney collector and I didn't like her effectively watching commercials.
I've downloaded some of the shows she likes so she can watch videos, but it's a closed loop. I know and approve of all of the content she has access to.
He also watches lots of garbage truck videos.
