It took me a while, but I now have a handle on what's dishwasher safe. If I'm not sure, then I'll just handwash it or ask.
Does your SO know which pots, pans, silverware and other items are dishwasher-safe?

Yes. He knows better than I do actually.

For the most part. Sometimes when he being lazy he puts things in the dishwasher that don't really fit properly- like our big frying pan, that will stop the spinner on the top rack from spinning and nothing gets cleaned properly.

When in doubt, handwash. That's his rule anyway, and I'm pretty thankful.
