DH opens mine SOMETIMES.
;P If I have a son, I'm totally going to teach him to be a gentleman!

He does! He is a gentleman. Sometimes I beat him to it and he fusses at me.

Hubs doesn't only because I don't have the patience to wait! I'd rather just go ahead and open it myself.

Sometimes, especially the first few months after we got married. DH's mom taught him to be a gentleman and I greatly appreciate that!

Only if it's date night or something. Otherwise we are with the LO and he is always the one to put her in the car seat.

He did until lo. Now hes so busy putting lo in the car, and putting our pup in his seat belt, and putting the stroller in, etc. But if we go out just the two of us he still opens the door.

Only when we are taking his car haha. I will definitely be teaching my son to always open the door for a lady!

No, and I really wish he would. I always notice when men do that and I think it's awesome. My stepdad and my brothers do, in addition to all sorts of adorable acts of chivalry, so I guess I grew up used to it. I want to teach our son to, but unless his Dad does it he probably won't!

He doesn't, but I don't really see a need for it. He does hold doors open to places, and I do appreciate that.

DH always holds doors open, helps me with my coat, pulls out my chair, etc. When we are out with Japanese friends, the ladies are always amazed that he does things like that and ask if all men in the US do that because their Japanese husbands never do those things.

We don't have a car, but it would never occur to me to open a car door for someone!
nectarine / 2886 posts
Yes, always! Maybe that will change once LO arrives, as @artbee said!

Yup! He opens my door, and when I get in I lean across to open his door. Sometimes I'll get out my keys and open my own door, but it's usually his job. His parents definitely raised him to be a gentleman. His dad opens his mom's doors too.

He doesn't. I don't like car doors always being opened for me by a man; its a weird power thing that I don't care for. (I'm not sure how to explain it better, sorry, it just rubs me the wrong way).
My husband does almost always open the doors to buildings for me and other women, but most men in New England seem to do that for women.

Sometimes, on date night for sure but other than that not very often anymore. He used to all the time before we got married...

He doesn't. I think there is more to being a gentleman than opening car doors. I'm more concerned about how DH cares for me emotionally and in general.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
He does. He holds the door for all ladies, including me, of course and tries to be the best gentleman he can. No boy ever come to our house and not open the door for our daughter!
hostess / wonderful watermelon / 39513 posts
He does sometimes. I don't think it is necessary since we have automatic lock on the cars. He opens doors to buildings when we are out without LO.
bananas / 9118 posts
Early on, yes. Also yes up until recently because neither of our cars had automatic door locks- and I get cold easily so he would let me in first. Now with the new car he puts the baby in while I get in on my own- doesn't bother me though.
And I will definitely be teaching Cam to open doors for people when he gets older.

nope and i don't think he ever has. i just asked him, did you ever open the door for me? he's like what? always! i was like the car door? he's like, what? never! why, you can't open the car door by yourself?

I'm with @yoursilverlining: that kind of thing makes me feel weird. He usually lets me go first when we're going into someone's house or a store, though. I think of being a gentleman in a similar way as @cupcakemama.

Not for the car but he opens doors for me to stores, home, etc. unless I beat him to it. I'm impatient
