WA does. I forgot that when I lived in PA, it did not.

We have a state sales tax that's applicable to clothing purchases but it's not specifically a "tax on clothing".

In MA there's no clothing tax under a certain $$ amount. Not sure what it is off hand though. We also live 2 miles from NH and do most of our shopping there and they have no sales tax on anything. Every time I go home to NY I'm horrified by paying ~8%.

@ShootingStar: NH sounds awesome-- they have the best state motto, too! In NYC there's no tax on purchases under $100, which is nice, although I have expensive taste

In MN - no tax on clothing, ever! It's the best..especially if you go shopping at the Mall of America.

@LCTBQE: I always forget that NYC DOES tax on individual items over $100. As a SAHM, to be honest I'm not buying too many individual things over that price point, so I tend to forget....whenever I treat myself to a new pair of boots/jeans/eveningwear and have to pay tax, it's such a rude shock!

@PinkElephant: yeah, I'm due today and haven't shopped at ALL since I bought my mat clothes back in march--I have a feeling I'm about to join you in majorly curbing that habit post-baby but agreed, it's so annoying, I've many times walked away from stuff that was $109 or something because I resented the tax.

@PinkElephant: @LCTBQE:
Wow! I found this.
New York State sales and use tax rate of 4% Metropolitan Commuter Transportation District surcharge of 0.375% There is no sales tax on an item of clothing or footwear that costs less than $110. An item of clothing or footwear that costs $110 or more is subject to the full 8.875% tax rate.
Though, here in WA our tax is "The retail sales tax is comprised of a state tax of 6.5% and an optional local tax of 3.0%" But we don't have income tax.

@bluestriped bee: Ha! I had no idea that it was $110. That seems so arbitrary!

No. We only have sales tax in the form of resort taxes, which I don't really understand, but doesn't generally affect me.
