We got Xander a tricycle for his birthday (he's 2) and I just realized I probably should get him a helmet to wear when riding it! Do you have one for your LO? Where'd you get it?

We just bought him one because we had to for a trike a thon a school. It's just from Target since it was last minute. I haven't been able to get it on him since, but his trike is so low to the ground (like a big wheel) it doesn't worry me.

Yes! I figured this was one of those things to start early so they know it has to be done!
We got ours at Target

Yes. If he is riding anything with wheels, he has to use a helmet. It has never been an issue.

Yes. We use a helmet for any bikes or activities like that. We got ours at a local hospital. They have a safety store and sell helmets (with free fittings) for $10. I'd ask around to see if you have an option like that. It was awesome.

okay i sheepishly raise my hand to say that i did not get my LO a helmet for riding his tricycle. i did get him a helmet for riding in the bike trailer behind me. i should rethink this practice. anyway, we got one from target (i think schwinn?). i've heard really good things about little nutty, but they are pretty expensive.

@lamariniere: We have the same rule - if it goes with wheels, a helmet will be worn.
We got ours at Target. She's currently outgrown all her wheels and helmet.

Yes, the rule on our block (grandfathered in by the older kids' parents) is anything with wheels requires a helmet. The neighbors even gave us one when they handed down some wheeled toys.

@Corduroy: That is so great that your neighborhood has that rule! When I was growing up, none of my neighbors wore helmets so I hated having to wear mine.

yep, anything with wheels gets a helmet: bike seat, scooter, balance bike. we have a bell one that has blinking lights you can turn on in the back.

He has a helmet for his scooter. We got it at Toys R us.

My daughter wears a helmet with her scoot bike, but not always with her tricycle. The tricycle is heavy, so she mostly just rides it around the patio. She puts a helmet on when we're actually going somewhere on her scoot bike.

Yes. We just brought him a bigger tricycle. He picked out the helmet himself. I have no idea how he knew he needed one. lol

I was just thinking the same thing. LO has a tricycle now but no helmet (we push him on it he doesn't know how to get it to move on his own yet). Just found out my nephew outgrew his so we will get it, the brand is Nutcase. They have really cute designs.

I'm so glad to hear you all are enforcing helmet safety. My DH's life was likely saved by his helmet

DD only has a scooter right now but yes, she has a helmet for it. We will also be sticking with the rule if it has a wheel, you wear a helmet.

Yes! LO has a Giro helmet, and I like that it can adjust. My 1 year old can fit it too!
At school they don't wear helmets while riding tricycles because it's not required by law (not tall enough from the ground). We are encouraged to bring our own since they don't have the funds to provide one for every student. I brought it in, and he never wore it since his friends didn't have to wear one.

I picked out one at target. Her first one was from Walmart. I just got the one that is closest to her age range.
