I've never had a dog, so I have no idea, but BFF's dog & one of my work doggies had lumps (not in that location though) that were no big deal. The vet checked them out, and one was biopsied, but they're both fine. Hope your dog has the same result.

We are dealing with this right now! Lump doesn't necessarily mean cancer, but it can. My golden has had several that were just fatty tumors or hematomas. You just need to go to the vet and get it checked out - they will stick a needle in the bump, pull out the fluid, and look at the cells .... Based on what they see they will decide if they need to biopsy.

My parents' springer spaniel was what their vet joked a "fat factory--" she had so many lumpy fatty deposits all over! She even had one lump growing on top of another one. And she lived to be 14.5. Sometimes lumps are nothing.

It could be a swollen lymph node, or a fat deposit - only your vet will be able to tell you. I hope it's nothing! Your husband sounds very sweet; I am incredibly attached to my dog, and it gets me teary even thinking about her getting older (she's almost 3). I wish they lived longer lives!

Definitely does not mean cancer! Dogs get lumpy. My 9 year old Corgi has a lump on his chest that I had checked out and it is just a fatty tumor, not at all dangerous. When I was a kid we had golden retriever who got BIG tumors but same thing-- just fatty deposits.

No it doesn't! My dog has lumps (he is 8). The vet says they are fatty deposits and are a sign of old age. It freaked me out when I felt the first one!

My friends dog was old and had all kinds of benign lumps. I hope yours is okay!!!
