i've always wondered whether folks whose dogs sleep in bed (with the humans) are less likely to consider/try cosleeping with their baby.
if you sleep with your dog(s), do/did you cosleep with LO? was it successful?

This is our problem with cosleeping! We sleep with our two little pups and I won't let lo sleep on the bed when they're there. We've only done cosleeping for naps or traveling without the dogs, so only a couple times (and really it's bc lo doesn't love the travel crib I think...). So much of our dogs' lives has changed since lo-- they get so much less attention and active playtime that this is the one thing they get to keep. I love cuddling with the dogs at night!
Eta it's not that I think they'd mess with lo, but they lean up against our legs when They sleep and I'd worry that they'd lean up against lo and she wouldn't be able to breathe

Technically my vote isn't true, since we don't have a LO yet, but we're 100% planning to cosleep and at least one of our dogs sleeps with us, as well as my cat occasionally. (Our other dog refuses to stop pooping in the house at night so he has to stay in his crate.) We'll have a sleep nest for when LO is very little, but all the animals prefer to sleep lower, on our legs or feet, so I'm not concerned about there being any issues. Except space! We're getting a king size bed before LO arrives, because 2 adults, 2 (or 3 sometimes) animals, and a baby will get crowded. I don't even sleep well without at least one animal on me, so I can't imagine stopping just because of LO.

We don't sleep with our dog because although he is medium sized he likes to take up the whole bed! But I have allowed the dog on the bed for the occasional nap with LO. I don't always fall asleep, just lay with LO on our bed until he settles & goes to sleep.

We don't co-sleep on a regular basis, but last night my son had a bee in his little baby bonnet so he ended up sleeping with us. Our dog did not relinquish her spot at the end of the bed. I think a bomb would have to go off in the middle of the room for her to move. She is 80 pounds.
Discounting the 4 month sleep regression problems, the sleeping was fine last night. Everyone had room in our (new) king bed.

We didn't co-sleep regularly, but when DD was real little (less than 6 months?), I would bring her into bed with us for her 3am feeding and she often stayed there the rest of the night. We have a 60lb dog and two cats that all sleep with us at one point or another. It was never an issue. DD usually slept on my chest and the dog and cats were either at our feet or between us.

We sleep with our dog and did not co-sleep partially because of this reasoning (however there were other reasons as well.) She's very protective of me when sleeping and although she has never done anything and I never think she would to LO, the risk is too great. However now that LO is older, they both sleep with us and there is no issue

We don't co-sleep with our dog on a regular basis (although he always takes my spot during MOTN wake ups now!) but he's one of the reasons we don't feel comfortable co-sleeping with our kids.

DH is too heavy of a sleeper to co-sleep with LO. I don't mind if he boots the dog off the bed in his sleep (it happens regularly), but I don't want him booting the baby

We used to cosleep with the cats. But We Have since moved and they are garage cats now and they are terrified of her. I was worried because my husband has rolled over on our 500 pound cat in his sleep. I don't move at all. Anyways so she is not allowed anywhere near my husband in bed.

I will co-sleep with the baby next to me in the bed and let the cats roam. I don't sleep too soundly when the baby is there, anyway, and the cats almost always sleep by my feet. Sometimes if one of them notices that I'm awake, he will walk up and cuddle next to me for some pets, but I have never woken him up and discovered him there.
But we only cosleep if the baby wakes up in the middle of the night or in the early morning. We never start out the night with him in our bed.
I would prefer not to cosleep at all -- I need some space from the baby -- but I would rather cosleep than no sleep!
ETA: This used to make me a little nervous, but now that the baby is 9.5mo and over 22lbs I am not too concerned. And I would never let the cats into a room where the baby is not co-bedding. The door to his room remains shut when he is sleeping in his crib by himself.

We have co-slept since birth (LO is 16 months) and our 70 lb dog sleeps either on the foot of the bed or his dog bed (he moves in the night). If my husband falls asleep on the couch the dog takes his spot. Its never been an issue. We did buy a king bed when I was pregnant because of this though.

I feel like there is no option for me to vote. I slept with my dog until I had a baby. (Until I met my husband technically.) Cosleeping was a necessity with the baby so the dog got a new bed. I wouldn't cosleep with a dog and a baby in my bed.

We have a newborn and have been co-sleeping to survive for now, and we kicked out dog off the bed!

We sleep with our dog and will not be co-sleeping with our LO. But we're just opposed to co-sleeping for other reasons, not because our dog sleeps with us.

We co-sleep with E, one dog, and at least one cat. We did the same thing with N. The animals sleep at our feet.

I'm curious if the size of the dog(s) is a factor for anyone. Our dogs are both about 11 pounds. I might have more concerns with a bigger animal.

Our dog is 41 pounds. Our one cat is 16 pounds, the other is 8 pounds. If our dog was bigger it wouldn't really work for us.

Our dog sleeps with us, we won't be co-sleeping but not for that reason. I think we could manager the 4 of us in bed though if that was something we wanted.

Our dog chose not to sleep with us, starting when I was pregnant I think. When she did, she slept at my feet. For the first 6m of DS' life we co slept at least part of the night, if not all of it. He slept between us and I slept on my side, kind of curled around him. Next baby I'm going to get something to side car to the bed so I can roll over without being afraid. And if the dog was on the bed i can't see her being an issue with the side car. For reference she's 20 pounds.

Our 50 pound dog sleeps on my feet and the cats come and go as they like- we sporadically co-sleep with our #2 boy (now 9 months, but this isn't a new thing). Everyone has their space and nobody wants to be near the baby except me, so it works fine for us. We did the same with our oldest son too.

The dogs got kicked out of our bed when I was pregnant. The one especially is big and likes to snuggle and gets excited in the morning. We didn't cosleep until my daughter was a little older but sometimes after a morning nurse we'd lay in bed for awhile. So the dogs learned to sleep elsewhere

Big dog got kicked out of the bed when little dog came home about 6 years ago. Little dog is skittish so, if something moves, he moves. So we weren't too concerned with him and the baby in the bed. We didn't start cobedding until LO was 6 months old so able to roll and lift his head up. I don't particularly remember if my dogs did or didn't sleep with us then, but we didn't kick them out.
LO still sleeps with us and the current arrangement is that everyone is in the bed together. Big dog sleeps at my feet and little dog sleeps at LO feet (which is a stretch since LO is usually sideways so LO is really just below him).

I slept with my dog until I started co-sleeping w/my Lo... my dog hates my LO and won't go anywhere near her, so as soon as she came into the bed, my dog left and sleeps on the couch :"( It makes me so sad - I would have loved to sleep w/both of them.

Successfully cobedding with a 12 pound yorkie and a LO for one year and counting!
We ended up upgrading to a king bed once LO was home, and we realized we would all be sleeping together.

We used to sleep with our dogs (2 mini dachshunds). However, the day after we brought LO home from the hospital the dogs got very territorial of LO and agressive toward one another. We very quickly worked on setting some new boundaries for them, including not sleeping in our bed. (Meanwhile LO was in a PNP in our room).
The dogs have gotten comfy with LO, and we now cosleep with LO sporadically, but they still aren't allowed in our bed... that doesn't stop one of them from sneaking in in the middle of the night. Not too worried about it though, LO has 9 pounds on the dog

I'm not certain whether we will cosleep in the bed together, or use our Arm's Reach or the Rock n Play, or go straight to the crib. But I think if we do cosleep, we would be okay with our 60-lb dog still sleeping down at our feet, but we'll need to retrain our other 50-lb dog who likes to jump up onto the bed halfway through the night and curl up between DH and me.
