my daughter is five years old this year and my son is two months. everything has been so girly! the two will share a room for the next couple of years, until we find a bigger place. i'm trying to figure out how to redecorate their room (yknow, less my little pony and ballerinas) - what's a color scheme or style that would work for both? she really likes animals and we all enjoy the outdoors (live in the woods, frequent the beach). i'm not all that big on all of these sporty clothes and prints for boys and would love some inspiration.

I was TG for my first and we did yellow gray and white, with elephants, for decor. It's not like we had a fancy nursery at all, but there are lots a cute nurseries like that on Pinterest. I think you could do a lot with animals though!

Ha, I was going to say the same thing - we did a forest theme for our nursery and I think it's pretty gender neutral. A very similar grey to that last photo above, and the same wall decals. 6 photos (porcupine, deer, raccoon, bear, squirrel, and fox) from The Animal Print Shop. White furniture with natural wood accents, Dwell "Woodland Tumble" bedding.
You could also do a kind of nautical beachy colour scheme - navy and white stripes, pops of yellow or teal.

I think nautical works really well with both boys and girls! Or if you wanted to incorporate animals a little bit more, you could do an undersea / ocean theme.

I would split the room and let the girl decorate however she wants, because I think 5 year olds definitely have strong opinions! Pink and purple and ponies for her and whatever neutral thing I wanted for the boy

I'm having B/G twins and I had trouble finding a bedroom theme that didn't break the bank.
I was looking at a coral and navy blue customized bedding set on Etsy but I didn't want to spend that much.
I used some inspiration from this B/G twin bedroom from the show Blackish.
Ultimately I found that I wanted to buy crib sheets and decided to go to the fabric store to find fabric that would tie the two colors together. I went with lavender sheets for our daughter and green for our son.

@bluestriped bee: i definitely feel like that's where we are right now! the wall colors are that neutral green and she has some lavendar and pink bedding, lavendar and grey rug. it's cute but i'm convinced the girliness is overpowering?

My son and daughter share a room (when she isn't co sleeping with us
). We have a blue on the walls, (I think it is bm Buckford blue), mint, green and yellow accents. Dd side had some pink. It goes with everything and ties the room so nicely without being overwhelmingly boy or girl.
